my 13 year old son was steering from the passenger seat.

    aka "Autopilot".

TBF the straight stretches up there are often only 40-50km. It's no Eyre Highway...

Some good straight bits on the Barrier Highway between SA and Broken Hill as well. Probably only 35-40km but I remember one straight that you approach from a relatively higher position and it just screams out 'point and shoot' (apologies to Alex Baldwin)

@dogmeat What colours do they have? Aren't most modern cars' paint jobs pretty boring nowadays? Except for that deep metallic red colour that Mazda has, that is too awesome.

The copy of Alfa Romeo competizione red you mean? 😎

They are very similar, it’s a stunning Colour.

I sat in a 6 month old 4C a couple of years ago. Beautiful car, stunning to look at. But you had to cross a 6 inch wide doorframe to get in it. And then it was very small inside.

It was completely bonkers. I’m glad they exist but I’ll never buy an Alfa

I have a Giulia in competition red. It has its idiosyncrasies but I bloody love it. 3 years in and no significant mechanical issues 🤞

Been years since I was out there. I really need to book a 2-week road trip... Stupid family, limiting my dreams...

South of where I got busted speeding, through the Goonoo State Forest, there is an undulating straight stretch of only about 20km but you can see trucks coming from the entire distance - their lights, bordered by the state forest growing right up to the verge, look like something alien.

What continues to surprise me in regard to road trauma is peoples inflated belief about their own abilities. 94% of crashes occur because a human made a mistake. If we make a mistake at high speed, we kill ourselves, our mates and other road users.

The death messages I delivered after people hit trees, power poles etc still haunts me today and the scenes I attended will never leave me. If many of those drivers had been going slower it could have prevented a lot of trauma, including mine.
