So first two games of this years world cup played and not many would have picked the result of the second match. Big win for Scotland!

Losses for NZ and ENG overnight (vs AUS and IND) in warm ups.

Sounds like NZ should have won but death bowling not tight enough and/or some lucky swings.

Good news is that Davy Dumb Dumb was out for a golden. I think that makes 1 run in his last 3 innings or something.

@crucial Davy will probably come right when we least want him to.

What is our top XI? Something like:

Guptill, Seifert, Williamson, Conway, Phillips, Neesham, Santner, Jamieson, Sodhi, Ferguson, Boult

Leaving: Mitchell, Southee, Astle and Chapman

Sounds OK. My worry is the usual trade off between wicket taking capability (Plan A) to death bowling (if plan A hasn't worked).

Do we need both Jamieson and Ferguson? Or is Southee a better option?

Neesh almost epitomises the old Black Caps. Makes you sweat whenever he takes the ball but every now and then produces something seemingly from nowhere.

Anyway, all the best luck (it is T20 afterall) to the team. Really hoping we can do this and hold Test and T20 titles too add to the ODI one stolen off us.

@crucial Timmy always seems pretty hittable - but, Big Kyle has gone for plenty playing for NZ as well.

Mitch Jr. has shown some form in the lead-up games (he retired in this game against Oz). But, I think Phillips and Neesh have a bit more hitting power at 5 and 6 and we probably want that.

Chapman can bowl a bit of spin in addition to batting - but, I'm not sure his batting is compelling enough compared to other options.

Astle - third spinner if we decide one is necessary. But, who knows - they might prefer him to Ish.

I'm not sure I'd go with Jamieson automatically at this stage of his career in the T20's. He seems reliable to concede 40 off 4 at this stage. Rightly or wrongly, RCB reached that conclusion.

Just to highlight some of the minnows again until the real stuff kicks off 🙂

4 in 4 balls for Campher from Ireland .... great work
                  https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/icc-men-s-t20-world-cup-2021-22-1267897/ireland-vs-netherlands-3rd-match-first-round-group-a-1273714/full-scorecard

9.2 to CN Ackermann, short tailing down leg, big appeal for caught behind from Campher. Didn't sound like anything live as Ackermann is late on an attempted pull but both Campher and the keeper Neil Rock have convinced captain Andy Balbirnie to call for the review for possible caught behind. But it's a quality sales job by Campher as replays show Ackermann has gloved this with a spike showing up on UltraEdge! Another bad ball wicket for Ireland. After so much poor luck against the Dutch since that match at Sylhet in 2014, everything is going their way this afternoon in Abu Dhabi.. 51/3
9.3 to RN ten Doeschate, pitched up and pinned in front! Tendo goes first ball! Campher has two in two and Netherlands are in trouble. Someone needs to put a finger in the dyke! Full and straight and ten Doeschate, who announced his retirement from county cricket last month and has not been in great form, was stuck in treacle, bat coming across the line - looked to be hitting leg stump. 51/4
9.4 to SA Edwards, goes full again, hit on the front pad... not given this time! Rod Tucker shakes his head, Campher looks imploringly at him. That looked close to me, and Ireland are going to review. No footwork once again, beats the inside edge of the bat... and Hawk-Eye has it smacking leg stump! Curtis Campher has a hat-trick! Netherlands have had the stuffing knocked right out of them. 51/5
9.5 to RE van der Merwe, bowled 'im! FOUR IN FOUR! Campher has done a Malinga, as van der Merwe throws the bat and drags a wide one into off stump. Incredible scenes as the Boys in Green seize control in Abu Dhabi. Campher had none for 12 at the start of his over - now he has 4 for 13!!. 51/6

Timmy has seemed incredibly more hittable in his later years, he still tactical nous but I certainy dont back his ability to execute especially at the death in this format like I used to.

@bayimports I see ten Doeschate is now 41. I thought he'd been around a long time and I was right!

Logan Van Beek also in that Dutch side.

believe he retired from county cricket this year so I am assuming this is his last tournanment for his country too.. been a while since we have seen him in NZ first class scene anyway!

You're bloody kidding me! I was watching that game, getting a bit tired in that 10th over. Thought I'd just watch that over, and be done with it, there were weird Indian ads that seemed to last an eternity between overs.

First two balls were wickets, and after each wicket they launched into those gloriously bad ads again, with no variety, like clockwork. I finally gave up, not even thinking straight enough to realise I was missing a hattrick ball, and pissed off to bed.

What the hell was I thinking

Little Kane and the Neesh don't have much to do to improve on their competitors' performances in this one.

Given the flier that Guppy gave us, the middle order botched this badly.

Somewhat concerning that Kane's elbow is presumably troubling him enough that he's not having a bat.

So after the final qualifiers it seems the pools are:

                                Australia
                                England
                                South Africa
                                West Indies
                                Sri Lanka
                                Bangladesh

                                Afghanistan
                                India
                                New Zealand
                                Pakistan
                                Scotland
                                Namibia

To me, we're clearly in the weaker pool - notwithstanding the likelihood that the Afghans have all sorts of mystery spinners (in fact, I think their best guy might have stayed home). Edit: I'm wrong - he quit as captain, but is there.

But, in the weirdness of ICC draws - the first pool game is India vs Pakistan and then our first two games are against Pakistan and India. So we won't be too far into the tournament and one of the big teams will be needing someone else to slip up against a minnow.

Only two from the group make it through so it seems the first few games will pretty much decide who it's going to be from our pool.

Hopefully the warm games don't mean much, otherwise our tournament will probably be over a few days time.

Take them with a grain of salt, really.

                                    It's a bit of a crapshoot.

Will be very handy if our somewhat lesser lights like Seifert and Phillips can get going and contribute in the big games.

Santner and Ish are going to have big jobs.
