NZR to post another loss. It's going to happen until they get the fans back in the stands.

@sparky not sure what you mean. Almost all tests fully sold out. Nzr don't get money from sr or NPC gates

@sparky said in NZ Rugby Finances:

But how many watched it on TV, which is where NZR gets is money from

@Machpants More fans at SR and NPC games will help pay player wages. Comparing attendance at SR (especially at Eden Park) to the attendance at European club rugby at the moment is frankly embarrassing for New Zealand rugby.

Money will be lost and good players will go overseas until the problem is fixed.

@Machpants Outside NZ and Aus, almost no one. The vast majority of fans in China, Japan, Europe and the US aren't interested in watching sport played in front of empty grandstands.

Selling tickets cheaply (I almost think it's worth giving out tickets to games for free to get folks off their sofas), getting Rugby played in front of passionate fans who will generate an atmosphere and watch the global TV revenues go through the roof. It's not hard.

@sparky Just go back and read what was posted on here last year. Auckland had terrible weather last week, and the Force are hardly a draw. Look at the average crowd numbers.

NZ Super Rugby teams get better crowds than most clubs outside of France.

@Tim But Rugby is supposed to be NZ national game. Look at the comments on YouTube to see how much damage the empty stands is doing to the reputation of NZ Rugby.

6000 people turned up on Friday from an urban area of 1.8 million. That is fewer than some soccer teams from English towns like Halifax, Aldershot and Oldham get in fifth-tier competition, the National League. And yes, it rains there too from time to time.

These are some of the comments that were posted on YouTube under the video of the Blues-Force game.
