It was said that the back row of the main stand at Albany was still closer to the touchline than any seat at Eden Par (pre RWC11). I can believe it. It was a fantastic viewing arena.

Had many great nighs there when even North Harbour would get 10K+ crowds

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/350195199/north-harbour-stadium-faces-demolition-proposal-rebuild-venue-community-sports

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, an arm of the Auckland Council, is proposing an option to replace the current North Harbour Stadium with community sports facilities.

The stadium made an operating loss of $2.6 million last year.

A smaller stadium could be built on the current site for North Harbour Rugby to use.

For the 2022/23 financial year, the ratepayer subsidised every attendee to an event at North Harbour Stadium to the tune of $35.68.

Onewa is good enough for the NPC

I was told NH STadium used to be the only one of the stadia that returned operating profit - mainly due to conferences. Of course, that's in the days of NSCC operating it.

Fantastic stadium. That, Dunedin and Rugby Park Hamilton are some of the last proper rectangular ones for rugby

It was the most profitable in NZ. I think Auckland Council were happy to run it down which included not marketing it as a non-sports venue.

This from last week won't help matters

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/350190747/moana-pasifika-devastated-not-being-able-play-north-harbour-stadium

The field at North Harbour Stadium was resurfaced shortly after Juicy Fest on January 6 and was expected to be ready for Super Rugby game.

However, on Tuesday Sakalia was told by his match-day operations team they had no confidence that the turf would be in a good enough state in two weeks.
