I watched some highlights (Kings v Grammar) last night. Huge crowds of enthusiastic kids/youths watching a game of rugby with great crowd participation. (OK, element of captured audience ...)

Yet. The game featured none of the youth-oriented marketing we have to suffer through at a game of professional rugby.

No piped music.
The kits were plain, traditional and recognizably different from each other. . No fluoro, squiggles, fades.

It seems buy-in and attendance could be based on the respect and enthusiasm for the institution and its traditions and the integrity of the competition?

Yet, at a higher level we still have to suffer through a game-day experience of what a 40 year old marketing executive 30 years ago thought kids/teens/20-somethings from 30 years ago were into.

Perhaps would be good if someone from College Sport NZ ended up in a 'marketing' position at Super Rugby level.
