I was at Seddon Park when Wilson hit an unbeaten 44 off 28 balls to win that ODI against Aust. A small sample size, but his batting was better than his bowling.

      First class stats indicate otherwise.

If I went by that logic I’d say the same about Tim Southee based on his 77 not out against England.

Wilson looked to be a really good pace bowler who could bat a fair bit at the top level but we’ll never know for sure.

@mn5 I was only commenting about his ODI stats.

Shane Williams. A guy that had a storied career (top Welsh try scorer in 6N and RWC, Lion, 6N winner) to be 5 foot 7 in an era of big physical players is a testament to his toughness

His running metres were in the negatives when he marked Rico Gear though

Quite a big difference between a discussion about the games greats & rugby freaks.

there is and perhaps I was not clear, I dont think you can compare either of the two mentioned with the super freaks of Lomu, Cullen as neither were freakish in comparison in my mind

                Pascal Ondarts - Seriously strong.
Thierry Dusauitoir - 38 tackles in a match.

In the forwards think it would be hard to beat Michael Jones 1987 vintage: no less than John Reason described as the best rugby player he'd ever seen.

He tapped around the Waugh twins and Dodemaide in that cameo so it may not have carried across to when Wasim and Waqar came out the following year. Classic game though, one of my earliest cricketing memories!

His bowling was definately better than his batting, taking FC wickets at 24. But a 5ft10in right armer bowling in the mid-130s wasn't going to do much at international level.

The twins weren’t great bowlers, Dodemaide was bloody good in a brief career though.

But yeah, I would have loved to see a parallel universe and Goldie to choose cricket and see what happened.
