Lawson finished 8th in Monaco. A great result for him.

Solid strategy and an excellent result. He was just behind Ocon in the latter stages, and not far from Hadjar either. That will do wonders for the confidence

The tactics weren’t great for the spectacle but Lawson did very well.

He held up the middle of the pack to allow Hadjar to pit in front of them. Continued to hold them up so Hadjar could complete his second mandatory pit and stay in front of Lawson essentially confirming 6th spot for his team mate. After that he had enough pace to complete his two pits without losing positions

The new track rules didn’t work but RB took advantage of them the best

Monaco is an outlier. They could never get away with that on a proper track. I do like the idea of mandatory stops though. It might create more variability

Not much chat about Tsunoda and his lack of results at Red Bull. His results so far, I assume he would have hoped for better than that.

That second RB seat is cursed. And the car is shit. Even Max can't consistently get on the podium with it, and he's the best driver by far

They went from a dull race to a dull and difficult to follow race

There's been some suggestions about also mandating when the first pit spot needs to be taken (first 20 laps, first half of the race etc)

However that doesn't deal with the actual problem. It's too hard to pass on track at Monaco. Trying to manufacture position changes in the pit lane doesn't fix the actual racing. Also it opens up the possibility of shenanigans like today

Yeah everyone loves Monaco but the racing is terrible. It'll never get canned because of other factors, but if a new circuit was that bad it would get dropped instantly.

Purely a heritage race. That has all the glitz and glamour, but it's like racing cars around the countdown car park

                yeah
                embarrassing
I think the commentators actually were a little embarrassed at times
the Monaco “party” is ok, look at the yachts!, but the actual race is a heritage event
the qualifying is legit, should award the points for that, not the race
embarrassing when you compare it to the other big race on the weekend

Back in 2017 the Monaco Grand Prix made 90 million Euros over four days for the Principality. It will be a lot more than that now.

You might not like it, but the 72-hour annual party for some of the world's wealthiest and most flashy individuals with some fast cars in the background in a glamorous Mediterranean tax haven with a famous casino brings in the cash. Lots and lots of cash.

There is zero chance of it disappearing from the sporting calendar.

I didn't say I wanted it gone. It's still cool, it just isn't the pure racing test that comes with a proper track

The excitement of Monaco on the track is the practice sessions and then the qualifying. Short of a SC the race is just a procession.

                        I still remember Liam's audacious pass in F2, Monaco F2 GP 2021

                        https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1ET3xWFY7H/

Eye-catching because of how rare it was.

These F1 cars are so wide, unless someone makes a mistake, it is impossible to overtake

Good to see the F1 principals pushing for some track updates. I'd assumed it wouldn't be possible on a street circuit in an old city, but maybe there are some possibilities.

@Cyclops there's a lot of pedestrian area around that could be altered for track use possibly?

He appears to have done a PB lap time, just wasn't enough. The car clearly has pace, hopefully he can race well tomorrow

Piastri and Norris qualify on the front row in Barcelona with Verstappen and Russell behind them. Lawson will start in 13th.
