@mikedogz Good to see some of the Chiefs U20 players (2021 and 2022) in that squad.

@Bovidae Jaden Kingi is a son of a former steeler and Grandson of the great Bruce Robertson.

And I thought that he was one of the best performed Chiefs U20 players this year too.

I liked the look of Moananu last year, and Manase and Tuifua this year.

Here are the results for the Chiefs Centurion Cup today:

    Game 1: CM 31 - 12 Waikato (HT: 12-5)
    Game 2: BOP 50 - 5 Taranaki (HT: 17-0)
    Game 3: Waikato 7 - 5 Taranaki (HT: 7-0)
    Game 4: CM 19 - 5 BOP (HT: 7-0) - CM winners

I wouldn't read too much into the results as the strength of the teams varied in each game. ENS did at lot of damage out wide against the inexperienced Waikato outside backs in the 2nd half. BOP started Trask at 1st 5 against Taranaki, and Sangster and MSR at lock. The Taranaki team that played Waikato was stronger with more Chiefs players.

    Slightly strange squad.

A ton of props after which it gets progressively lighter.

Hope Toddy Blackadder hasn't had a hand in the recruiting. 🙂

Bigger picture on the Mako website:

Mako NPC Squad for 2022 named — Tasman Mako

Mako NPC Squad for 2022 named — Tasman Mako

The 2022 Tasman Mako team to play in the Bunnings Warehouse NPC will again be co-captained by Mitch Hunt and Quinten Strange.

That Canterbury team looks a lot closer to full strength than the Ta$man one - though we've got some of our bigger guns on the bench.

    A few out for Canterbury
    Bridge
    Ennor.
    Matale
    Drummond
    Grace
    Prinsep
    Harmon
    Romano
    Williams
    Jager
    McAlister

All will be in the top 23

Canterbury looking pretty stacked this year - will be much more of a threat to win it all this year, assuming the coaching has improved.

Do you know what happened in this game? I've only seen Stargazer's halftime score and a guy on the Mako facebook page saying he went home at halftime because it was 40-0. I'd imagine the bloodbath continued!! 🙂

Frizell was down to play the 2nd half, but I presume he would have been elsewhere? Wonder how much rugby he's played in recent weeks?

p.s. Among the comments on the team announcement on the Mako page is a link to a livestream (I presume it's real) - you need to create an account so I didn't bother. In case anyone is interested.

No I don't know much Mate about the Game just what I heard the Canterbury played really well and were fired up under the new coaching structure,
But that is coming from a Canterbury view point. The score surprised me as both teams had a heap of players missing.

@Chris-B I also posted the full time score.

    @Stargazer said in NPC 2022:

    Full time:
    Canterbury 69 - 7 Ta$man

And that link goes to a phising site, asking for all your personal details. 🙂
The game wasn't livestreamed. The Mako instagram showed snippets.

    @Chris Cheers.

Score doesn't surprise me too much - I thought your starting XV looked a lot more NPC than ours.

Sam Matenga might be the only guy who makes our top 23, though I hope Parata does.

If Frizell was listed to play it's strange why he didn't, seeing as though the other Recall De Groot played 40 minutes for his beloved province

It's Ta$man and perhaps their players loyalty does not stretch as far as playing mere preseason games for free.
