@Bovidae said in Maori All Blacks v Ireland - 1st Match:

Just got back from the game.

A couple of general comments looking ahead to the test:
    (1) You can see the line speed Ireland bring to defence, but they were often getting penalised (i.e., no.5) for shooting out too early.
    (2) Speed of passing from the halfbacks will be so important for the ABs. Weber was quicker but erratic with his passing. TJP was so slow the receiver had little time to catch the ball without an Irish player in their face. It's very obvious why neither are in the ABs.
    (3) When Ireland get their short passing game going combined with quick ruck ball they will test the AB defence.

agree with those points and one other thing I noticed was that Ireland didn't attack the ball in the rucks at all as in didn't go looking for turnovers or even slow it down.. gave the maoris pretty quick clean ball then they could attach the fringes of hte rucks and make good ground. Can't imagine the 'A' team will be allowing that to happen

That was only after Barnes decided they were playing his leniency by having unstable players 'pushed over' by team mates and falling on the wrong side. I saw lots of hands on the ground which was at odds to the way Super was reffed.

For sure, was quite obviously not all there. How the doc let him return is beyond me.

He passed HIA, but he shouldn't have been allowed to take one. He should've been straight off, HIA is for head knocks where there is doubt, not some one who is obviously concussed

You called it! Was on the red and got a bit excited judging by that language:face_with_raised_eyebrow: I have always wondered why Stevenson gets zero love though. He has played well for the Chiefs.

Not always. Has been prone to brain farts among the flashes.
I'd be very happy if he had produced that game early in the season and cemented one of the back three spots. But he didn't

He played well, threatened the line, broke the line, setup others into space.

Josh is in desperate need of consistency and a Super team where he's the sole option at 10. IMO that will either be the making of him as a Test 1st Five or he can earn some big money overseas doing his thing.

Yeah, usually passing is his strength but it was pretty average last night, oddly. Still, it was great to see the return of his excellent manipulation of space. If that excellent wide ball returns he's one of the most dangerous attacking first fives in NZ.

Ioane was shit and they still trounced them. Not that the Irish 10 was much better. Big lad, tho.

Irish injury count was bad for being the first game on tour. How that prop was allowed back on the field after falling on his arse is a mystery. Clearly they don't want Cian Healy banged up too badly before the first test, so they'll sacrifice the brain potential of a rookie.

I don't think it's worth gnashing teeth over the backrow.

Plenty of options available. The incumbents will be feeling the pressure, if they don't play the absolute house down then they won't be there long.

If being an important cog in most of the Maori tries is shit, I look forward to him improving. The only way is up baby!

They only have the small screen that the Sky sideline commentator uses to look at. The TMO should be in communication with the medical team as they have access to all footage.

Often the endless replays you see on TV is not what we see on the big screen at the match. Hopefully they have a better system in place now.

And the huge stadium big screens?

Often the endless replays you see on TV is not what we see on the big screen at the match. Hopefully they have a better system in place now.

Yeah it's pretty poor. Even an iPad with skygo app would be better 😂

I must admit, I didn't notice it on big screen at game. Surely if he stumbled when Irish medical team was there, they would of mentioned it though.

seems bit of a miss all round...team mates, opposition, officials, surely they all know the rules/regulations?...even the player, given we have seen the odd player take themselves off following a knock that was missed by officials?
