@Nepia as i say, something "offical" would be better than nothing but i would think live scoring is the minimum we should expect from a premier sporting comp

Tribe is fine, it does that minimum level of schedule/score/results but across pretty much every sport...doesn't really strengthen the super rugby brand, im probably not explaining it well. maybe thats why there isn't a super rugby app...they know tribe is out there and thats fine...i just know if im looking for an AFL score i check the AFL app...same with NHL or EFL..rather than looking on tribe...and i guess thats the opportunity for these comps to catch my eye with a headline...or some new merch

My suggestion would be they just licence the Tribe guys to do what they do - but in a Super Rugby branded app shell if it suits, then they can also have the franchises provide some of the other info like injuries etc. I have more faith in the Tribe guys to do something competent than anyone involved in any of the franchises, unions etc.

Personally, I guess I'm opposite to you in that I like that everything I want to look for is in the one app, so prefer Tribe to individual apps by sport/team.

@Kiwiwomble ha, when I cant watch rugby, I tend to just come here for score updates (although you always have to ask for them as most people just comment on the game)

But I'd like something that did provide livescoring, additionally, you could click on a team/player and it'd bring up stat options, and ideally, it would allow you to see say Sam Whitelocks career stats, but also his AB stats, his super stats and his NPC stats

But I know I'm pissing in the wind.

@taniwharugby thats wy i find the AFL one so good, does all that, love the worm for game progress so you can see the back and forth, stats for team and players, links to higlights after the game

@Nepia i guess thats the point, its not done by the individual teams...the competition organisation runs this stuff normally unlike super rugby where its individual parties trying to agree on how things should be done

thinking its either going to be just use something thats already out there or get the intern at each of the franchises to slap something together is exactly how amature a lot of super rugby is...no...we pay a professional company to build and run an app with everything that all the different types of fan (hard core, casual, nerdy, new) could want...thats what most premier sporting comps in the world would do

The All Blacks app provides score updates as I've used it for the NPC games while being at a game myself.

That's what I'm suggesting they do with the Tribe guys (not sure if they're professional company but they're good to run an app with multiple sports at all levels (schools to pros) but as we all know the issue would obviously be getting the info needed.

Haha, nope, I just use the app all the time - it's the most convenient sports app for me. Not sure how I coped before I had it actually.

@Nepia the problem...in my mine...to get people focusing on super rugby more...they'd have to ditch all the other sports the current support, SRP doesnt really want to getting distracted by AFL or NRL that are going on at the same time...not if they want SRP to be "bigger", more sustainable/profitable

Yeah that's why I said they could use a Super Rugby branded app - they would just put all the stuff they put into Tribe into that - with the addition of the other stuff you want if the franchises/unions are up to it.

There's fuck all space on the field in modern day big match rugby.

Look at Tamaiti Williams - he's a 144kg and covers ground like a loose forward and even in the new rules designed to speed up the game went 70 minutes and was only beginning to tire in the last 10 or so.

That final felt a hell of a lot like what the RWC will be. Set piece tries and discipline.

Very little counter attack rugby or tries scored from phase play as defences and too big and too fit these days. The players are getting bigger and faster/fitter but the field isn't getting any bigger.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy the final as I did but it's a very different game now.

Hopefully Foster and Co. took note, as the game plan that he and Hansen have been using since 2014 or 15 is not working anymore

@KiwiMurph yeah, and with stadiums and stuff we cant make the fields bigger....so im coming around to the idea of less subs, or you can have a bench of 8 (so as to cover every position)...but can only use 5 or something

you have to do something to tilt the odds back towards athletes rather than muscle and bulk. Speeding the game up, restricting subs, etc - it all does the smae thing.

Rolling on a whole new front row at halftime, and having a new lock is 80% of your tight 5 not playing 80 minutes. It should be 80% of your tight 5 playing for 80 minutes ... then you get some rugby happening, and gaps open up, and the game looks good.

@nzzp might also force people to think about using their bench differently, do you hold back someone like BB or Savea for one of your few subs....and let then run riot against a tiring defence

@nzzp or that you are only allowed to replace 1 front rower (injury excluded, so still need sufficient on the bench) in the game, maybe 1 lock/loosie cover and then maybe 1 back, or go old school and injury subs only.

Sure will mean more utility type players, but, it will mean more players going 80.

As keeps getting mentioned, actual policing of binding rules would help some remove alot of people flying into rucks to clear a player out (that is often just a waste of time and energy, but increasing the risk of an injury and/or card)

@taniwharugby my only concern with injury based subs is people working the system but just saying they have a niggle, i think i'd almost rather have to make them hold back replacement just in case there is an injury

@Kiwiwomble guess thats how it used to be, plus there was bloodgate...you will never completely stop that kind of stuff IMO, but needs to be heavy penalties for anyone caught.

Most games now there is usually at least an injury/blood or HIA each game...who knows, but as above, with the game in the NH where the money is, and the power base moving north, I dont expect much to change.

No chance of this happening, the NH like it this way.

They seem to love all that stodgy shit, or do they just like it because it seems to be a winning formula right now? In contrast I really like the way the NRL have sped the game up. The buzzer that sounds a set reset without blowing the whistle is great

i have to say, as a former front rower, i dont mind a bit of slogging, i think it can build a bit suspense and and make a flash backline play even more impressive...end to end helter skelter stuff loses my interest...got to have the fast and the slow for me

Same. Even as a non-former front rower.

I'd rather watch set-piece to set-piece (as long as teams are allowed to legally defend or allowed to legally be inferior scrummagers) - than the unlimited-tackle almost league, that we have now. Obviously, something in the middle would be better ...

My barriers to watching rugby are not stoppages, or speed of the game.
