see good old Hartnell is having one last run in the weekend in the MacKinnon. I'll be sticking money on him to run a place, just for the sentimentality of it.

Great horse though that would have won a whole lot more if we weren't blessed with Winx

Stakes day!! I have early bets on Reykavik in R7
 Sophias Choice in R3
Girl Tuesday in R6Girl Tuesday is now the favourite and I feel dirty. Probably throw something at Loving Gabby to tip over Santa Ana Lane. The rest I will make up as I go along

Short favourites winning easy is so boring

I can't believe that big cat of a horse has just thrashed them.

What the fuck was that?

I had Reykavik in a multi with Mr. Executive to place for $7.50...plus an e/w on Mr executive, so that's about it for my wins today. My other multi paying over $6k I only got 4/8 horses...

Shit day. 1 winner and 3 money backs. Thankfully only bet Flemington today

Reykavik is a nice win though mate. Had a nice piece of it but at $8 and the bugger drifted to $12!! And by 'big cat' I assume you are talking about nature strip??? Was one of my better wins yesterday. Loved the outside draw and knew it wouldnt be caught. $4.80 yes please but wow didnt expect it to win so well. Santa ana lane just unbackable at that price. I chose Rondinella over Girl Tuesday but both no good. I was almost on Oceanex which won it but didnt think it quite had the class..doh!

Yes. Nature Strip is a big cat who steals people's money. My old friend Stealthy Lucas won The Ararat Cup today to cash in one of my bonus bets from yesterday. So I end the weekend ahead.

I just saw a classic “bridge-jumper” at Mountaineer racetrack in USA. Total 103K bet in the show (3rd place) pool — of that 92K was wagered on the 1/9 fave — who ran 4th. The three show places paid $18.00, $17.20 and $34.30 respectively — better than the win & place payouts. I gotta start paying closer attention to the betting pool totals...

@Smudge is Some Do one of the horses you are involved with?

Where in the actual fuck are Racing NSW getting all their money? They have another ordinary race in Newcastle tomorrow that is for $1M. Some average horses stand to make serious money in NSW these days.

Just put a fiver on Kolovos to place at $16 at Alexandra Park...bloody thing won, was paying about $61 to win too, thought was too longer odds to go e/w haha

@mariner4life I think the answer to that question is, from Muppets like me.

She got an average draw but I couldn't believe the bookies opened her at $18 - I was thinking $6 or so. I popped $15 each way on her. She was driven like she was the best horse in the race and that's exactly what she was. She's now 3 from 5!

@voodoo said in Rough tips and other bets...: @mariner4life I think the answer to that question is, from Muppets like me. How much of the betting pool actually goes to purse money in Australia? I’d imagine something close to 85% of the total betting pools get returned to punters, yes? Higher/lower?

@mariner4life said in Rough tips and other bets...: @taniwharugby said in Rough tips and other bets...: @mariner4life said in Rough tips and other bets...: it sounds like skill, but i want to make it absolutely clear i don't really know what i am talking about and it's guesswork stunned!! Here I have been following your every post waiting for your expertise...only to find out you are just a bit more experienced at guessing than me i can't even call it educated guesswork. It does mean i do really shit on days when favourites clean up. like every day in Cairns recently And on a day like today in Sandown I get done over
