it is open as shit this year

The only horse I can see winning paying under $10 is Onesmoothoperator. I reckon the winner will be a horse paying $20+.

I saw on social media something about NZ banning greyhound racing. Yep.

This may rattle the equine industry. I assume the Rodeo guys will be on their toes, but Dressage and others have potential issues here as well.

Advocates says it's the "end of an era of exploitation" as Winston Peters announces the closure of the industry over "unacceptably high" injury rates.

Hmm... where did I get that from? Somewhere in my memory I thought they had banned it.

    Seems only ACT.

That's not quite true. It certainly dinted his approval ratings but it didn't cost him his job.

The NSW Government announced out of the blue they were banning greyhound racing in about 2016. Followed on from a lot of media coverage on animal welfare issues in the industry. There was a lot of backlash, especially in regional areas where it does have plenty of supporters. Also a few major media players here came out against it, seen as being elitist and lacking in consultation.

In the end they reversed the decision. The Premier (Mike Baird) resigned a year or so later, which he was probably always going to do.

The dumbest thing the Baird administration did was put a hard 12-month closure date on it. They soon realised there'd be circa 10k dogs needing to be rehomed (or relocated to other states) in an unachievable time frame.

Massive day at Ellerslie today, and it's getting the media coverage it deserves.

NZB Kiwi is the centrepiece and while I can't go past Evaporate to win, there's 6-7 winning chances in there.

A little bit stoked today. Had a winner at Ascot Park (my 68th as an owner, I think, but who's counting?) but what was cool is the fact about two years ago, one of my workmates said "you have a bit of luck as an owner - get me into the next one you buy into". This one came up at the sales in February 2024, a racing mate of mine bought it then offered me a share, I pulled in this workmate and another colleague of ours and we took 5% between the 3 of us (me 2.5% and the other two took 1.25%).

The horse (a pacer) qualified earlier this year behind a filly that went on to win group races, our guy came back in this spring, won three workouts, came to the races today for the first time and won by 2 and a half lengths, barely raising a sweat in the process.

We've already had some interest from agents and now he's won so easily, the price has probably gone up...

If only all horse ownership was this easy.

Think I've invited you to take shares in at least a couple of these pacers/trotters in the past few years!

the only disappointing thing in this great post, is that this thread is about tips and unfortunately I did not see one for this horse 😉

so to throw one out there

Friends horse running tomorrow pretty short but cant see it getting shorter, because tough field, aiming for v derby. Caufield R2 Miewa

The Everest has become the biggest race in Australia. Probably thanks to three main factors:
    it's on a Saturday
it's in Sydney where so much sports media is based
VRC sold the rights to the Flemington Carnival to Ch9, meaning Ch7 barely talk about it.

This year is out of control with Ka Ying Rising dominating all racing chat for about the last month, and most especially since the most hyped Barrier trial ever a couple of weeks back.

Shaping up to be a huge race though, and i think there will be a few connections praying for a bit of rain tonight.

KYR being so short has blown the odds of a few others out so there is heaps of value if you are willing to take the favourite on (unsurprising to some, i absolutely will).

Does take the shine of one of Australia's most famous races in the Caulfield Cup which looks a pretty good race as well. A few out there who are more aimed at the Melbourne Cup, but there are half a dozen pretty decent chances, or at least interesting runners.
