@mariner4life yeah, the English media has waited a long time for a half decent test team, so that fawning won't end any time soon. Baz is the perfect coach for them - a great one day side that didn't know how to play test cricket. They had the right strengths for him utilise with his aggressive approach and they've taken to the gameplan like ducks to water.

Be interesting to see how that style goes against the Aussies though, not quite so easy to play "positive" cricket against their bowling lineup.

yep, can't argue with the results, ENgland are on a roll, and 3-0 in Pakistan is huge

but holy shit the fawning over "bazball" is fucking nauseating

you would think no one had played test cricket positively before. It's like everyone has forgotten the Australians even exist.

Its the Australian blueprint the English are using,Australia have played that way for years,The English have just ramped it up a bit.

My pick it could be a disaster v Australia,The line and length they bowl will make it very hard to play Bazball.
You have to be patient and aggressive when you get an opportunity against them, the Poms might have reign it back a bit to succeed.
      It will a fascinating watch.

I'm going to disagree on this part.

It's looking like a real potential 'step-change' to me.

This is different from Steve Waugh taking the potentially best ever team in 120 years from allcomers and getting them going 25% more aggressive with the bat than the norm.

Looks to me like England have taken their biggest weakness and turned it into a strength. Their batting was appalling, worst ever in their 140 year history. Their top 3 was mid-1990s Blackcaps level.

It won't work everywhere v everyone, though.

Maybe it's just a fun gap-plugger for a few years until their county system produces some top 3 batters again. Maybe it's a more than that. It's early. It didn't 'work' v South Africa at home, because SAF have an ace attack, but I also think England with the useless top 3 would have struggled v SAF if playing normally.

I kind of hope it fails, though. Just because I don't like batting dominated cricket. but if it motivates boards not to produce home roads (if more teams take this approach) then I'm all for it.

It’s way over the top by the media and pundits but completely expected. England do well and they all start sucking the same bell-end.

However, as an England fan it’s been great to watch after years of turgid timidity in selection and playing. For the stats though, we’ve beaten the world champs AND the runners up AND S, who have a pretty good attack (albeit all at home) AND have beaten Pakistan 3-0 away. Yes not a vintage Pakistan side but on a couple of poor pitches.

I agree though, the real test will be Aussie. Thank God we have them at home.

@Catogrande yeah look I don't begrudge the fans the success, it's great.

              But the press are sickening

And made all the worse by how hard we all know they will turn if England get smacked by Australia.

So not McCullum in the 2015 CWC Final then. That's how I see England going in Oz.

Rinse, repeat and all the mental frailties come rushing back to the fore

@Catogrande I think every Black Cap supporter can sympathise with English fans and appreciate them enjoying their success.

As I have said elsewhere though, they do seem to have had every bit of luck go their way. Whilst yeah you make your own luck and Bazball amplifies that, I do fear a readjustment is in sight. Hopefully for the England fans, their team's confidence is so high that they weather the knockbacks better than in the past.

Great performance though. I can easily see a 3-0 result when NZ tour Pakistan too, but unfortunately in favour of the home team.
