I wasn't born when he played, but they say he was one of the greatest running backs ever. I remember him in the Dirty Dozen though, it was probably quite a strong role for a black man in America at that time. He was one of a crop of prominent socially aware black athletes at the time, Ali, Abdul Jabar among others. It says something about his ability and impact that footage makes it look like tackling was an optional extra in the NFL when Jim played.
