She is also a Life Member of my Wellington Football Club, NZs longest continuous rugby-playing club.

I think thats up for debate isn't it? whist the club existed during the war years they didn't actually field a team, Dunedin RFC founded only a year later has fielded a mens team every year....something for another thread

@Kiwiwomble The Wellington Football Club played it's first game using the rules of rugby in 1870 and records indicate they have fielded teams playing under the rules of rugby in every year since then. You might be confusing them with the Nelson Rugby Football Club (formerly Nelson Football Club) who were founded in 1868 and adopted the rules of rugby in 1870 but did not field teams in their own name during the War years. These two played the first official game between Clubs (as opposed to School teams) at Petone on 12 September 1870, Nelson prevailing 2 - 1!

Maybe, I know Dunedin RFC have claimed to be the oldest "continuous" club in NZ, i have a commemorative jerseys with it embroidered on it, maybe thats something there was confusion about in the past and has since been cleared up

Good to see the stakeholder board has expanded and Union qualification specified. That will stop the provinces being able to push things through in their own interests

@Machpants yep think it balances out. I always want provinces to have an input, as they are who run rugby in their aeras, but like it to be balanced with need to remember it is a professional game.

Having that settled is good, but only if the new board and management can make hard decisions.

As the discussion in the crowd thread shows, the way forward looks reasonably clear (our NPC-centric and non-NPC centric posters seem to align on the 8-10 team in converged Super/NPC competition idea).

I'm interested to see whether NZRU can get there. I won't hold my breath.

Realistically we will see no great changes to anything for a year or 2, I would imagine , or even want. It's only the board that runs things, and regardless of what we think/say in general there only needs to be tweeks to how the game is run at board level. Most fof it will be perhaps more commercial, and that all takes time stc.

Graham Mourie has been appointed as the independent chair of the new 9-member stakeholder panel.

Dame Patsy and Dame Farah Palmer, who is due to rotate off the NZR Board, will work in conjunction with the Stakeholder Panel to establish the six-person Appointments and Remunerations Panel (ARP). They will be joined by current NZR President Matthew Cooper, whose role sits separate from the Board.

Let's see how good the new people are, if the incumbents aren't rated in the top 25 % of applicants, it could simply be a reflection on the lack of quality on the current board.

Alternatively, this could be good politics, if these come with baggage from the previous board, it's probably better for them to not be there and for the board to start with a clean slate.

100+ applicants into 9 does rather leave some winnowing required.

Nah, I think we (like other nations) have been sold a dummy with private equity. I thought it was the correct idea based on the sales pitch but there is no more money to be had. We'll be lucky to break even with the silver lake deal, same the abs recent performances (along with the all blacks 7s 🤮) isn't helping
