they will have to get a bonus-point win over Romania in Lille on Saturday and then ensure they defeat Ireland in Paris the following weekend with a bonus point or win by more than seven points to deny the Irish a losing bonus.

The thing is their moment has lasted about 20 years and they’ve just gone into overdrive since Scotland have been playing some good stuff after years of drek, dire rugby.

Well done Scotland. Perfect set up for a massive game against Ireland next weekend. It would be absolutely terrific if they could somehow knock over the paddies and deny them a spot in the quarters. Not completely outside the realms of possibility however unlikely it may be.
Didn’t Romania used to be ok ? They’ve fallen down the genuine minnow path pretty comprehensively this WC, the results against the three big boys have been horrific

The group was fucked from day one. All three deserve to be in the quarters especially when you look at the other side of the draw.

Decades ago they were really good. Better than Italy and capable of beating France and Wales. Toured NZ in the '70's (?) beating a NZ 2nd XV, I think.
A lot of their players and structure came from the armed forces and the collapse of communism had a huge impact when state funding disappeared.
