NPC 2024

@taniwharugby 38 players by my count. That seems like a lot for NPC.
@Bovidae yeah, I think even with the 2 props and then McNamara who was signed in 2022 and unlikely to play (think he may have only played 1 game last year) 35 is still high?

30 of that squad played club rugby this year, although Parker, Nock, Reihana and Murray all unavailable due to Super Rugby, Brady Rush didn't play club due to 7s.
Adams and Cobb, both contracted last year, will be late returning due to MLR commitments, as such, Isi Tu'ungafasi and Trinity McQueen as short term cover.
I know bugger all about Richie Asiata, he has been signed direct from MLR by the looks.
Are 9 new players added from club (Hutchings, McQueen, Davis, Peita, Boyd, Nankivell, Salmon, Duncan, Nicholas) plus Latu, although he did play club rugby but was signed before playing.
Gutted for Terepai King, was in some form this season for Mid Northern and set to return to the Northland, but i believe he has a health issue that saw him miss the last 4 rounds.
McNamara unlikely play, he is contracted but believe has a long term injury and not played any.club rugby this year.

Asiata is an Aussie and is starting Hooker for the Reds this Friday vs Wales, so you can check him out.

@Canes4life is Josh Southall out injured for the season? He's a bad run of it
Yeah man, he's had the worst run of any player I can think of. Had serious injuries every year since he was at school. Not sure if he'll come back again. Harry Press who has come back from Otago will likely be that second hooker unless Dane Coles wants to do one last season for Wellington haha.

Shame. He could have been VG injury free

@mikedogz What's happened to Thor Manase? He and Tuifua looked good for the Chiefs U20s in 2022.
-
Sorry, I should've included what I was replying to. I believe I saw Thor Manase listed for a Heartland team
@bobily2 OK, who?
Manawatū squad:

Experienced players recruited from overseas were George Blake (Queensland Reds), lock Lachlan Shaw (ACT Brumbies), wing Ataata Moeakiola (Kobe Kobelco Steelers), and fullback Reece MacDonald (New England Free Jacks)

Moeakiola was at the Chiefs for one year (2019), but didn't do much. I wonder where Epeli Waqaicece is?

Didn't do much might be an overstatement...
Wasn't it Colin Cooper's decision to sign Moeakiola that saw Reece choose to head overseas (and then eventually end up with the Crusaders)?

Reece had signed to go overseas in early 2018 well before any 2019 Super squads were named and then lost his overseas contract due to assaulting his missus. No team in NZ signed him until the Crusaders Fijian winger got injured so they brought him in as a replacement.

The Canes need wingers, he could be an option but at 28 probably not. Interesting to see Waga Nalaga isn’t with the Turbos this year but Armstrong-Ravula still is.
