@Duluth Is it possible for the mods to change the name of this thread to "Hawke's Bay Schoolboy Rugby"? To take away the confusion with the general 2019 School Rugby thread?

According to posts on FB, Napier lost to Scots with the awful score of 17 - 70.

I know Napier lost a lot of their good players from last year, but earlier scores from this season didn't suggest that they have deteriorated dramatically. Which makes you wonder how many players Scots Coll have poached to top up their talent pool. This is not a normal score. There must be something more going on, surely? Or just a one-off, bad day?

@Stargazer Maybe there is a typo in the scoreline, either that or there must have been about four red cards issued against the home team.

                Super 8
Hastings BHS v Palmerston North BHS @ Hastings Boys:
                10.30am: 2nd XV
                10.30am: U15
                12.00pm: 1st XV

Gisborne BHS v Napier BHS 2nd XV @ Gisborne Boys (Rectory):
                11.00am: 2nd XV
                12.30pm: 1st XV

                Central North Island
                11.00am: St Paul's Collegiate (Hamilton) 1st XV v St John's (Hastings) 1st XV @ St Paul's

                Traditional
1.15pm: Lindisfarne Coll 1st XV v Te Aute Coll 1st XV at Lindisfarne

                ...

Palmerston North BHS seems to have a strong team this year, so the game between Hastings and Palmy Boys will be interesting! I hope Napier have recovered from that - still unconfirmed - huge loss against Scotts and bounce back well against Gissy Boys.

@Nepia Yes, they have been. Napier was trailing for most of the game, too, but managed to get a late try to win it. Some really big players in that Gisborne team.
Haven't watched the Hastings game yet.

Has the post mortem been released from the Scots College match. The scoreline beggars belief and one can only assume NBHS played most of the 2nd XV and the 3rds took on Hutt Valley Firsts for a scoreline like that to eventuate. Maybe Scots played that sprinting sensation and he might have streaked away for about ten runaway tries?

@Stargazer Scots have a gun backline this year, including Roderick Solo & Ethan Webster-Nonu so it wouldn't surprise me if they won by a big amount.

@Canes4life That ranking is from a guy who has never given any detail on how he ranks schools, only that he got his ranking system from the USA. I remember how he ranked schools the last few years, and he was way off.

Napier Boys have been good thus far, so I don't think a good backline from Scots can make such a big difference. I may be wrong, but until more info becomes available, I'm inclined to believe that either the score was wrong or something happened during that game (like red card(s) being handed out) or good players missing from the Napier line-up.

@Canes4life That ranking is from a guy who has never given any detail on how he ranks schools, only that he got his ranking system from the USA. I remember how he ranked schools the last few years, and he was way off.

@Stargazer Yeah you would think something like a card would of had to eventuate for the score to blow out like that. Scots have been dominant in Wellington though so who knows.

The 70-17 win to Scot's College over Napier BHS is a correct scoreline.

There is a reference to it from Napier BHS coach Brendon Ratcliffe in this morning's HB Today.

@Number-10 Yeah, just read that article. Unfortunately, no info on what happened in that game.

@Nepia Yes, they have been. Napier was trailing for most of the game, too, but managed to get a late try to win it. Some really big players in that Gisborne team.
Haven't watched the Hastings game yet.

I was talking to the parents of one of the NBHS players when they were down here when the 2nds played Wellington College and they told me the GBHS have apparently closed their boarding hostel so I guess Napier's Scinde House are getting some of the big back country farm boys that presumably made Gisbrone strong in the past.
