Jeez it gets hard to keep up with what sort of technologies and industries NZ is allowed to be involved in.
Seems like just last week we had some Green fucktard telling us how NZ doesn't support the arts enough... now apparently we support them to much.

@Baron-Silas-Greenback Investing in things that are popular doesn't count Baron. I thought you would know that. We should be giving money to an artists collective who want to hum Desiderata backwards while constructing a giant vagina out of PET milk bottles

@dogmeat the PET vagina reminded me of this, it also belongs in the thread about fact checking

Having been to Gore many years ago, I would have thought one was enough - let alone being trapped there (apologies to folk from Gore, I'm sure it is fantastic now).

I'm also guessing that the "Ovation of the sea" marketing department didn't approve that comment.

Blah blah bloody blah. So read a fucking newspaper ! Support NZ journalism. You don't hear complaints about content, journalism, typos within newspapers huh ? The content is less but higher "quality". But oh no. The digital warriors demand news as it unfolds. Whatever that news is. For free and with no advertising. You get what you deserve. And pay for.
It's not all about you. There's another 4.5m people to consider. You're only interested in what you're interested in anyway. Plenty of other websites can accomodate you I'm sure. Stuff appeals to the masses and lots of people like the bs.
Stuff is the biggest local news website in NZ. The biggest are freaking FACEBOOK and GOOGLE.
Advertising has ALWAYS paid for journalism. Print is expensive. Print is real. Digital not so much. SO unless you're a massive advertiser, deal with it. MORONS !

What an odd rant and to think he/she calls the posters on this thread digital warriors.

Anyway lets look at newspaper circulations,

    alt text

Whats that? oh right they are fucked, hell I didn't even know the sunday news was still a thing . Hmm wonder why?

    alt text

If this years taught us anything its that the mainstream media have lost touch with their audience. The other 4.5 million people Lozzy asks us to consider don't want to pay for news written by people they don't trust. But the posters on this thread are the ones in the wrong.

    Um ok.

Ummmm. I hear plenty of whinging from you jegga but not a lot of bright ideas. Nice graphs but so what ? Less people buy newspapers. We already knew that. Less people reading them, less people advertising, less money for journalism.

Not an odd rant. I'm sick of hearing digital warriors whinge endlessly about "MSM".

Your comments on a random website aren't news. Theyre not fact. They're just comments. Equal in relevance to mine. Just blah blah for people who have something to say and no mandate, no facts, no legitimate website to waffle on. Just opinion .... irrelevant, anonymous people waffling on. Like me haha

When did I say my comments were news? I don't work in journalism I have my own shit to do so why are you looking to me for ideas about how to fix falling trust and circulation?

Have you just come from your work xmas do? Must have been a decent bar tab judging by your posts.

Just read legitimate news jegga. Scoff all you like about the gossip articles surrounding it but journalists are proud and passionate about what they do and it pisses me off endlessly to keep hearing the beat up. You're just the one that copped it so sorry

I have no idea what makes you think you can tell me what I should and shouldn't do, you've been here for all of two days and made a clown of yourself on this thread. Denzel Washington sums up the pathetic state of the media these days quite well in this video.

@jegga Granny Herald had an article the other day proudly (fair enough too) trumpeting that both on-line and hard copy circulation had increased in the past year

Do you have a link mate? That'd be interesting to see, in the graph NBRs circulation has halved but they also put up a paywall too so its hard to gauge what really happened there.

    What a crazy shitwitch.

I'm not a massive fan of Xmas but not because I'm some sort of green warrior. I see a lot of people stressing out and getting further into debt because of the pressure to live up to expectations. The reality almost always disappoints. Throw in spending time with people you would normally avoid and add alcohol. No wonder it sees a rise in domestic violence and suicide.

But that's my personal opinion, coloured by the fact that the last time I was around kids on Xmas Day I was one myself. I find it boring but for all those that don't - fill your boots. I wouldn't be as arrogant as that oped writer.

Jegga I saw the Herald bit in a hard copy of the Herald I was reading at a pub. I'll try and find a link
