All Blacks v Argentina II

The management of Finau and Sititi has been absolutely awful to date. What the hell were they thinking putting Sititi on at 6 in a test we were battling in. He's a rookie and doesn't normally play there. That's one of the dumbest substitutions I can think of in AB history, and just to top it off they drop him after he completely unsurprisingly didn't go very well just to fuck with his confidence.
Picking Finau and Sititi and leaving out Akira and Sotutu was always a huge risk for those two young players, they really should be learning their trade in the squad and from the bench (in their preferred positions!). I was concerned their confidence would get ruined, and that is coming to pass with the way they are being managed. The coaches desperation to not pick the Blues boys is not only hurting us on the field, it is fucking around with the form and confidence of two players that we hope will be mainstays in the black jersey down the track.

I don’t think it’s that unusual for loose forwards to start their test career either as a starter or as a sub to play a position that they weren’t playing that season at super rugby - Sam Cane started his AB career coming on to replace the number 8 or blindside. He wasn’t replacing McCaw but yet coaches kept selecting him as a bench replacement to play out of position - until his time came.
Read even started as a 6 despite being more a number 8. Messam too played at number 8 early on despite being more a blindside.

I'm surprised Lord is still there, didn't really notice him last game.

Who would you select to replace him?

I was going to ask a Cantab this. Didn't Read actually play as a 6 in his first Crusader season then got moved into 8 with an eye for the ABs, or is my memory faulty?

Give Walker-Leawere a shot. Why not?

Lord has the physical dimensions and sure he’s still a young pup but I think they’ll persist with him at least whilst he’s fit and there are injuries to two frontline locks.

The Argentinians will be gunning for this one. There's history in the making.
If we don't have a good first half I'd like to see Ratima come out at the beginning of the second half. -
My takeaways from the starting XV.
I like the balance of the wingers better than Telea and Reece. Clarke and Jordan offer the Julian Savea/Ben Smith type balance.
Would you not start Ofa at loose head considering he’s been playing and Tamaiti hasn’t? Or are we just are just going throw another crusader straight into the starting xv who hasn’t played a lot of minutes at all this year….. not a shock. Thought having experience on the field would be a big thing in this game seeing as they harp on about how you can’t replace experience.
Shocked TJP is still starting, would prefer Ratima but I guess this is his chance to step up as a leader and prove why he should still be in the 23.
A shame De Groot has hurt his neck. Hope it isn’t serious.

I supect they've lessoned a learning -- better to have old heads on at end.

Cane confirmed in the interview he was covering 8 if Ardie goes down.
I mean... I like Cane and we need his starch but Sotutu must be sick as a parrot.
Ardie (who was in Japan) is being covered by an openside (who was in Japan).
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

For me only one real question from team: what exactly is the status of Finau? Not playing Fiji was uncontroversial, and selected in TRC squad. Why not sighted since?? When Raz asked in PC after Puma I announcement, he merely said, 'He wasn't selected' and clearly didn't want to discuss.
Other than EDG injury the 23 was entirely as expected.
The problem is that TWM are paying the price for extremely poor TRC squad selection.
No real gimme matches so all 36 needed to be able to come on for last 15 when heat on.
Bell, Sititi and Hotham ought to have been kept for EOYTs, either for ABs or XV.
The obvious experienced players were Ricatelli, Akira/Hoskins and Christie.
All of whom would have been real chances to be in 23 for Saturday had they been in squad.
The selected ones may be seen by TWM as having higher ceilings, but even if that is so, this isn't Super where periods of lessons can be accomodated.

So maybe the plan is to move Barrett/Vaai to 6 once the locks are all fit? Hence not bothering to invest in a blindside and making sure Blackadder gets in plenty of time in all positions for his move to the bench.
Ace.

@Bones Well, if we assume Holland comes in next year, lock will be quite crowded.
Can they bring Fabian Holland as a pre eligibility apprentice on EOYT, just to train with the team or is that forbidden?

The key physical dimension he doesn't have is a weight of 125 kegs.
