It's a pretty long tail with Henry at 8 - here's hoping we don't fold in the first session tomorrow.

@MN5 We want to bat once. India won't capitulate a second time.

Yup. Don't want to be left chasing a big total on the final day only to fold like a cheap deck chair

Nice to see Conway looking good!

One more run and he'd have been able to say he scored twice as much as India. Not many who'd be able to say that! 🙂

Next session is crucial (as usual). I'm right with @dogmeat - we only want to bat once or have a trivial amount to make in the second innings andit will never be easier to score runs in this game.

I am loving all the salty tears from Indian commentators going on about how unplayable the pitch was for India, and how easy it was for our batsmen. For sure the conditions improved, but given their innings lasted just 30 overs Latham and Conway had to survive in very similar conditions as their openers. Rolling them for 46 in front of their home fans is one of the more enjoyable things I've ever watched.

Also agree we really have to bat once if we want to win this, despite the first day the pitch is actually very dry and will take a lot of turn on the final day, their spinners will be very tricky to combat if we are chasing anything north of 100.

To add to my comment above, there is far too much focus on the pitch, there wasn't anything really wrong with it TBH. It had decent pace and bounce, and as you'd expect a bit of movement with the new ball, it was far fucking far from unplayable, the credit has to go to O'Rourke and Henry who were absolutely superb.

I think India made the right call at the toss, there is not much grass on the pitch and it will turn more and more. If they had survived that first session just 1 or 2 wickets down, we'd be well behind the game having to bat last on it.

India chose to bat for a reason, they knew the first hour would be a bit tricky and even made comments saying the same thing before the start, hell even Latham said they would have also batted.
Right decision just ultimately poor execution and although we bowled well, apart from a Blundell howler probably the most complete fielding performance from us in years. More catches sticking than I have seen from NZ in a long time.

it was a typical test pitch, movement early settled down to a good batting deck.
Some spin and keep a little low on day 5. perfect wkt for a test match.

Some poor and careless batting put India in deep shit,Aided by some excellent bowling and fielding.

Yep. Execution was lacking from India more than anything amidst some fairly ordinary batting.

Kohli got a good one, but the rest were fairly weak dismissals to some very good bowling.

For Conway, it looked like he made a determined effort not to be tentative - he's a bit of a bat dangler at times so it was good to see how crisply he was hitting it. You can criticise him for the shot he played to get out but he did that to Ashwin earlier in the innings so it was a definite gameplan. Problem with the one he got out to was the length - he yorked himself.

Some outstanding catches - Conway, Ajaz, Henry. India looked a bit psyched out and there is no way they should have gone from 31-3 to 46 all out.

Ravindra starts the day with a glorious drive. Smithy creams himself and spends minutes rubbing it in to the Indian commentators.

Indian groudn announcement is just ... weird?

this is an unusual situation for them, being on the back foot at home.

Smithy and Doully must be loving it over there right now. I have memories of Doull tearing through a much vaunted Indian top order at the Basin in his hey day, yesterday must have brought back some nice memories for him.
