Most refs are now not rewarding teams for trapping a player in the ruck, or placing the ball into the tackler and expecting a penalty. That is a step in the right direction.

I wish they'd stop rewarding players who could make a steal but instead just hold it on/into the tackled player.

That's actually not a law any more.

Agree with the rest of the post.

Yeah, given what has been the norm that was a card all day long. Did The Irishman milk it? Well yeah, I think so but it was nowhere near up there with Nic White levels of shithousery.

To my eye, Moroni is lining up for a tackle, the pass goes low and Crowley goes low to try to grab it. It's clearly head contact, clearly clumsy, and on precedent it's clearly a card, is it deliberate foul play - maybe? Slow motion makes this stuff look terrible, but it doesn't really reflect the reality of the game.
But if the focus is player safety, and if he's going to act like he's been severely injured, where is the HIA?

I thought the Pendergast yellow when playing Fiji was a farce to be honest. I've seen reds given for that.

Also love how he got hit by the invisible sniper after the contact. Very football.
