Making a family tree

I use Ancestry.com.au. With a free account you can do quite a bit. I have just found this site if you want to use templates: https://genealogy.org.nz/Forms--Charts/11155/

I went the easy route and did a DNA test on ancestry.com about four months ago. Currently sitting around 13-16 generations so far, thanks largely to the hard work of others who I DNA matched with. So you maybe in luck that someone else has already done the hard work for you and you can just check the details are correct.

I used Ancestry.com and paid for a month, then went to the free plan. In about a week, I got a very long way back and could add and edit easily.

Excellent, thanks. I'll have a look at those.

I knew quite a bit about my mother's side as they were reasonably high-profile early settlers but lucked in Xmas 2023 and found someone online who was able to tell me about the other side of her family back to early 1600's.
My Dad was an Ozzie and still had the shackle marks round his ankle so know nothing about his side of the family other than the names of his parents.
Haven't needed an actual chart as again the family history is tracked through a historical society.

My mum went right down the ancestry.com rabbit hole a few years ago, she loved it and if a she can work it out on her own in her 70's then i think its probably a good option

My claim to fame is Cory Jane. His late Grandad is my late Grandma's brother so I guess that makes us second cousins. Never met the legend though.

I think this is the one tech area that the oldies thrive on.
My great Aunty did a lot of work on one side of our family tree for us using the online sites despite being a complete computer dummy outside of email and FB.

@Nepia agreed, mum went juts for it, traced both sides back as far as she could, i think one or more of them back to the 1600's, got right into digitising all the old records and photos she found and uploading to ancestry to help other people

I have done it on and off for 20 odd years, Dave Loveridge is my most famous relation, a distant cousin. Provincial battler Chris Eaton is my 2nd cousin. I think Arnold Palmer is the golfer that my Grandfather said we are related too ,I'm still trying to find the link.
