Anyone have the data on the winningest coaches at international level?

Are they former backs or forwards?

The England v Scotland thread and the comments about Borthwick got me thinking

@MiketheSnow At risk of showing my age - Fred Allen, a forward was unbeaten as coach.

That title is rather redundant in a NZ context, we mostly just say bus.

Also, Allen was a back. Backs seem to make good coaches - Henry was a halfback I think and Hansen was a back (hard to believe I know when looking at him), but of other successful NZ coaches Lochore was a forward.

Of the very successful recent modern era bunch of kiwi coaches (therefore works most successful), they were mostly backs. But not many international level, only Wayne Smith with caps I think

Mains was a back but was one of the better forward coaches (and obviously not hugely successful as a coach but realistically the first two years of Hart's era should be consider Main's results 🎣 )

I have friends who played for Easts and regularly played against him, and to a man they hate his fucking guts

Reckon the forward back distinction is too broad. Looking at Sparky’s list it’s mainly loosies, ditto Rassie & Mallet.

Every now and again we loosies allow our natural prey, the large scrotumed ruck rat, to survive to maturity and become solid (though still very annoying) coaches (cf Henry, Galthie and Craven, Doc.)
