Mains was a back but was one of the better forward coaches (and obviously not hugely successful as a coach but realistically the first two years of Hart's era should be consider Main's results )

That title is rather redundant in a NZ context, we mostly just say bus.

Also, Allen was a back. Backs seem to make good coaches - Henry was a halfback I think and Hansen was a back (hard to believe I know when looking at him), but of other successful NZ coaches Lochore was a forward.

Grizz was also a forward. Hart was a back. Laurie was a forward?

Reckon the forward back distinction is too broad. Looking at Sparky’s list it’s mainly loosies, ditto Rassie & Mallet.

Every now and again we loosies allow our natural prey, the large scrotumed ruck rat, to survive to maturity and become solid (though still very annoying) coaches (cf Henry, Galthie and Craven, Doc.)
