Southland Tribune (a substack) is former Southland Times reporter Logan Savory's baby. He has a big Southland club rugby wrap each Sunday and plenty of sports content in there on a 6 days out of 7 basis.
-
I saw him a few months ago and had a yarn with him. It's a case of fine margins, I guess, but I reckon he's opened it up a lot more since he got a couple of local sponsorships on board.
People will pay for hyper-local journalism they can't find anywhere else so fair play to him.

Like @Smudge I really like the work that is done with the Tribune. Quality well researched content.
I'm big on the ODT. Love him or hate him. But Paul Dwyer drives a lot of content especially with the club rugby
Taranaki Sports News is another good one - https://sportsnewstaranaki.co.nz/
For Wellington Clubrugby.co.nz is good

Whatever happened to Inky?
Now that is a blast from the past.
I'm not sure what his main platform was but I subscribed to the NZRU newsletter in circa 2000 and he did a weekly roundup of all the games in SR/NPC/ sevens etc if I recall correctly.
Yeah, mostly just an email and a link to the “archive” on a website. 90% rugby, 10% political/social commentary under the general premise that you can’t trust any country where rugby isn’t widely played as a primary sport
He was the best for a long time

Out of curiosity does NZ rugby news publish a magazine in print that is widely available in NZ?
Rugby News is available as widely as a monthly sports magazine could hope to be these days
