Agreed about the wallaby defensive system. It's a scramble system - reminds me of Scott McLeod's AB defensive system - yuck

Implementing a rush defence system was something that he could have done, but never did. They probably would have won the game if they just brought some line speed.

Here's the Upset Aussie Fan in me:
Fuck me dead, how do you not find a penalty for the attacking side flying into that ruck with no desire or attempt to keep their feet whatsoever? Are we just throwing player safety out the window now? Not a fucking chance in hell Morgan was looking to do anything but seal off and take out the jackal while he was at it.
Fuck me dead, how did Genge win penalties at scrum time with his elbow pointing toward the ground? Open your fucking eyes ref - he couldn't win legally so he just fucking dropped it and you chickened the fuck out.
Where's the fucking medical staff looking at Conan after he could barely get back to his fucking feet early in the game? Do your fucking jobs, you fluffybunnies.

I felt he went missing
Armchair ride he looks fantastic, hard scrabble = passenger
Lots of criticism flung at Lynagh but when the Aussie forwards were on top it was he who looked like the seasoned professional, not Russell
5 years from now they won’t be in the same sentence except as a starting point

The problem with that ruck penalty at the end is that it 'should' be a penalty. Lions player comes charging in, head below hips, no intention to do anything but seal off the ball. It's what they are coached to do. Smashes head and neck area of the jackler.
But, this cleanout happens dozens of times a game and the refs just watch it happen. It's bloody hard to then penalise when you do hit someone in a marginal area. And this daylights one of the other problems with rugby - the contest fo rthe ball at the ruck lasts about a nanosecond and then it's over. There is no wrestling or driving over in any meaningful way - so the outcome is this.
And as for the jumping over players to get to the line, well. Rugby goes for performative safety theatre - it's not actually about safely, it's about the appearance of safety.
It sucks, because it sounds like otherwise a really fun game to watch.
