How great is it to have the Shield moving around this year!

It's going to be our turn to claim it next week

The mystique of that log makes teams do some silly and spectacular things.

    Congrats to Otago.

    How good was that!

Jeez Casey, another that got away, although TBF, if he'd stayed i bet Northland wouldn't have played him.

@taniwharugby What the back story on Lucas Casey? He wasn't on my radar before this season, and I'm no longer dunedin based so not close to the club competition any more. Clearly a talent and I hope the highlanders have signed him. But was he originally a Northland local?

Babas U18s. Moved down for uni. Made Landers U20s. Didn't make NZ U20s. Got some gametime for Otago last year. The best Dunedin Club Rugby player this year. Has carried on form..

@handa457 out of Kerikeri High, was in Blues u18s, while he has been in Dunedin for a.couple.of years or so he played 7s up here last year i think it was, some were surprised he wasn't offered a contract...

Think he was also a sprinter at school?

Pedigree been there, but this year he is something else, good luck to him, as I said above, NRU probably would only have given him a dev contract and then ignored him.

@SouthernMann Casey was in the NZ Barbarians U21s, not the U18s.

What a massive moment for Otago rugby. Being in the stands when Millar kicked it out nearly bought a tear to the eye. How good is being so invested in a team that has just gone through some rough years and getting a result like that!

Stodart, Casey and Pledger were the standouts from sitting in the stands. Stodart was just ripping into absolutely everything. Casey is a freak and needs a full contract with the Landers right now.

Cam Millar has had his moments but by god he was steady, you can really see he directs things around the field well when you’re actually at the ground. The things you don’t see when watching on TV I guess. Without his goal kicking yesterday we wouldn’t have won either.

Sam Gilbert coming on being that calming influence was huge as well, he cops some stick but shit he deserves some credit for what he’s done this season. Awesome for him to go out like that.

Theres something special brewing with these young bunch of lads and fuck it’s good to see after some disappointing seasons. Beat North Harbour next weekend and lock the shield away for summer.

Finals footy around the corner, anything is possible.

G Paterson, the kid holding the "I hate you Auckland" sign in the 1990s, Phil Cropper, the Loe family, The Wizard - your boys took a hell of a beating.

@Landers92 Pretty bang on with what you said mate. Otago seem to reaping the benefits of investing in youth over last few years. I a Naki man, but could be quite happy to see Otago go all the way in NPC.
I quietly suggest JJ has had this young fellas (especially from the region, but from around country too) and I suspect you will see even more pay for that policy in next few years.
Also how good is Pledger, reminds me of a young Aaron Smith, has his feet is such a sweet position as he gets to rucks etc and just sweeps ball off ground and lets it go, can pass both ways well too.
