Went to the Scorchers v Sixers game on Sunday. Was wondering what all the hype around Cooper Connolly was as they rave about him here but i hadnt really seen him play. Fair to say he's a talent.

given some of his shots in that innings, would he still have been a talent in an era where you had to actually middle the ball to hit a 6? Some of those early ones went as high as they did far.

Old man yells at cloud but some of these shots are technologically manufactured bullshit.

That said it's fucking great to have the BBL back, having games every night is brilliant.

Oh yeah you're right, I used to moan about it a lot when I was far more invested in the game 10-15 years back, but it is what it is now and there's no going back on it.

Time difference sucks here haha, I barely catch the last 10 overs of the 2nd innings after work.

Just watched the greatest Big Bash game yet. Heat ran down the Scorcher’s mammoth total of 257 with one ball to spare, remarkable considering Munro went for a golden duck. Superb effort and some fantastic ball striking from both teams, including a big innings by Finn Allen.

Jeez that's a crazy score card. First time in T20 history that a chasing team has two players get a century.

Highlights for anyone interested. My only concern is that he's not the best player of spin, and you need to be in India/Sri Lanka.

He is working on that the Scorchers have been having some sessions with him.
You can't ignore his abilty to tear a team apart in the power play, needed in India as the balls get soft pretty quickly and it gets harder to find the ropes.
You need at least 3 really big power hitters in your side over there

The interesting thing about Allen is he is using the open stance baseball style hitting that the Big Bash sides practice.
Using a bowling machine pitching the ball at you load up early with a firm base standing still generally then clear your hips on contact and transfer weight through and snap you hands through fast.
This makes you hit a lot further.

His overall T20 average isnt great being below 30 but his SR is one of the best going around at 174.63
currently the 10th best of all time and the other 9 above him have played significantly less games.

shit game last night really, Perth smoked it and the Renegades were never in the chase.

God T20 can be boring though. Something about a quicks bowling 6 off-speed deliveries in a row while the batsman tries to clear cow corner over after over is so fucking repetitive. It can be a good product, but sometimes it can be so formulaic in its approach.

yup and very early into a game its over as a contest. Theres not enough time to rebuild.
which is why ODI's are better overall. A team can be all but dead and buried but still find a way back to win or at least get close enough to make a game of it.

He's been hitting like that for a while now to be fair. Watched him plenty of times at the Basin for the Firebirds and his ball striking is some of the best I've seen.

The best tactic against Allen is not to bowl a speedster in the first over and try and put him off. Once he gets going he's devastating.

    @Chris you're the cricket coach

You're away, defending fuck all, bowling to the two most destructive guys in the comp.

Why are you not trying to take wickets and really attacking?

Why is siddle bowling off-pace in the first over?

Why is 1 slip the only regular catching option?

Has T20 cricket become just waiting for an error?

    And then an error happens...
