@nostrildamus Our countries were pretty young back in 1912. I'd imagine many if not all of those competitors still thought of themselves as ex-pats from somewhere else

I'd imagine many if not all of those competitors still thought of themselves as ex-pats from somewhere else Thank you, I disagreed, so went back to those 12 (or so) to investigate. And what backstories they had! Arguably Wilding was the least Australian or NZ-ish of the lot. At least one had family in the area going back to the 18th century, one was a Lord Mayor and tyre magnate, another Australia's first action star, I think some were very patriotic. And definite movies to be made there (including the connection between surfing, a murder mystery, and the "richest girl" of the world).
