        <p>It didn't look good when Tucker was helped off the field.  Geez, he's had some bad luck with injuries.</p>

          <p>as good a place as any....</p>
          <p> </p>
          <p><a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/provincial/83764909/heartland-bonus-points-scoring-system-out-of-kilter-with-new-rules'>http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/provincial/83764909/heartland-bonus-points-scoring-system-out-of-kilter-with-new-rules</a></p>
          <p> </p>
          <p>New Zealand Rugby appear to have dropped the ball over the Heartland Championship competition bonus points scoring system.</p>
          <p>A bonus point is awarded to a team for being within seven points at the finish of game, which was a converted try under the old Heartland rules.</p>
          <p>In 2016, under the new trial rules, a try is worth six points and conversion two.</p>
          <p>A number of Heartland unions are supporting a change to being within eight points but no decision has yet been made.</p>
          <p>On Saturday North Otago lost to Mid Canterbury 40-32, so missed out on the bonus point.</p>
          <p>North Otago chief executive Colin Jackson said his side should have been awarded a bonus point for being within eight points.</p>
          <p>"Common sense says it should be eight points."</p>
          <p>While the Old Golds did get one for scoring four tries, they could have had two competition points had the rules been changed, which could be crucial at the business end of the season.</p>
          <p>Jackson said New Zealand Rugby were discussing the matter before the season kicked off and he believed it made sense to bring it in retrospectively.</p>
          <p>"I did make a call on Monday to see what is happening."</p>
          <div>
          <div>
          <div><a class="" href="http://stuff.co.nz/about-stuff/advertising-feedback/?pos=storybody&amp;adsize=300x250&amp;area=onl.stuff.sport/rugby/provincial">Ad Feedback </a>
          <div> </div>
          </div>
          </div>
          </div>
          <p>South Canterbury coach Barry Matthews said he had no problems with a change to the rules but did not believe it should be retrospective.</p>
          <p>"It may have changed some sides thinking on Saturday. At one stage we had option for a penalty for a bonus point, had it been to close within eight points."</p>
          <p>Matthews coached North Otago to the Meads Cup title in 2010 but had no sympathy for his old boss.</p>
          <p>"The rules are what they are."</p>
          <p>Thames Valley, Wairarapa Bush and Buller all earned a bonus point in their season openers for being with seven points.</p>
          <p>North Otago were the only side be be beaten by eight.</p>
          <p>South Canterbury Rugby Union chief executive Craig Calder is however at odds with his Heartland coach.</p>
          <p>"This clause requires updating allowing for a bonus point be awarded to a team which loses by eight or fewer points, not seven points.</p>
          <p>"We support that this amendment should be retrospective commencing from the start of the Heartland season."</p>
          <p>The problem NZ Rugby faces is they likely need all 12 Heartland unions to agree as the championship has kicked off.</p>
          <p>The union will not want to leave themselves exposed to any sort of challenge when the Meads Cup and Lochore Cup semi-finalists are found.</p>
          <p>With the second round to be played on Saturday the longer the decision is delayed the more controversial it could become.</p>
          <p>New Zealand Rugby had been contacted but no response had been received.</p>

            <p>I heard an interview with the Wairarapa Bush coach a few days ago, who also questioned the fact that NZR hadn't made this change. Weird that NZR have not done so; it seems common sense.</p>

              I just noticed the header on the official Mitre 10 website is "Official home of the Investec Super Rugby competition". It's like they're not even trying.

                              Alby Mathewson has joined Canterbury as injury cover for Mitch Drummond.

                                Elliott Dixon gets a start at 7 on Wednesday night before he flies out on Friday. He's been cooped up in the gym and holding tackle bags for a month or so. Expecting big things!

                                A good performance here you would think would cement that 6 jumper in a fortnight.

                                      The Women's Farah Palmer Cup Final will be played at ECOlight Stadium, Pukekohe, next Sunday (2 Oct, 2.30pm).

                                      Counties Manukau Heat defeated Wellington Pride 60 to 7 this afternoon.
                                      In the other semi-final Auckland Storm beat Canterbury 33-3.

                                      Counties Manukau finished top of the table after the round robin, so they'll play the final at home.

                                      I watched part of the Auckland-Canterbury semifinal and it was a very physical game. The score does not completely reflect the course of the game as Canterbury spent quite some time in the Auckland 22 (esp the last 20 minutes of the first half), but couldn't convert their possession into points. Due to sometimes poor ball handling and other errors, they couldn't get passed a strong Auckland defence. During the second half, the rain started to get more influence on the game and Auckland dealt with the conditions better. Canterbury visibly started to tire and Auckland took advantage. Auckland's much stronger pack dominated the scrum all game, although Canterbury was strong on defence particularly in the first half. It was only 10-3 to Auckland at half-time.

                                      The other semi-final wasn't televised. IMO a big fail on the part of Sky and the NZR, who also scheduled both these games at the same time, preventing supporters in the Auckland area from going to both games (if they had wanted to).

                                      The final will be televised.

                                        Not sure where else to post this:

                                        skudz015 Hey Guys,
                                        To everyone that's been asking (and I really appreciate the support) looks like I won't be back until Super Rugby next year. Would have loved to get back out on the paddock this year but it's a bit too early and still some risk of buggering it. In the meantime will keep donning the 'HydrationTechnician' bib for the Turbo lads and I look forward to getting stuck into preseason with the Canes. I really appreciate all the messages & support , thanks a lot!!
