A good majority of last years' Canterbury squad are still available. I don't follow club rugby overly closely these days so I'm not sure who the next cabs off the rank are at hooker if we're missing all of Taylor, Funnell and Vella, plus in the loosies with Todd, Brown and Sanders all unavailable. Is Bird off now? Good depth available at prop and throughout the backs though, wiht the possible exclusion of midfield. A possible XV:

    15 Bridge
    14 Keresoma
    11 Makene
    13 Ennor
    12 Burleigh
    10 Mo'unga
    9 Drummond

    8 Whitelock
    7 Harmon
    6 Prinsep
    5 Dalziel
    4 Dunshea
    3 Tokolahi
    2 ???
    1 DLB

    Res

    16 ???
    17 Jager
    18 Hodgman
    19 Tucker
    20 ???
    21 Enari / Stratton
    22 Cameron
    23 McKay / Maitland

@shark Hugh Renton is also an option for the no. 6, 7 or 20 jersey.

@Tim Funnell suffered a season-ending injury earlier this year; Vella was picked up by the Hurricanes as 3rd hooker.

@shark Tokohali out for the Season,Stratton is with Waikato for this season,Probably not going to see Mo'unga and Whitelock. But may have Luke Romano back And Whetu Douglas has signed for Canterbury as well as the Crusaders

Good point re Mo'unga, had forgotten he'd be in the AB mix. Cameron and McKay can share the 10 duties. I expect Whitelock to be available though, and Douglas is a good option at 8 - with LW maybe switching to 6 - which I'd forgotten about. Stratton is news to me, but not surprising. Romano may be available but could easily be with the ABs.

Is McKay a good prospect at ten, is that where he wants to play? Last year he only played wing/fullback right?

I dont think he's played 10 since he left school. Even then was seen as more of a prospect at 15.

Lincoln seemed to play him at fullback or wing every week.

Caleb Makene has been playing 10 in club rugby, wonder whether he'll be considered there.

@sammyc That would be an interesting shift for Makene - not a bad idea if he has the skills to do it. I'm doubtful he's got the size to go a long way in NZ as a wing.

A shift I always thought Ben Blair should have tried. He could have been a sort of DMac prototype.

@chris-b makene only playing 10 cause Brett Cameron isn’t being released from crusaders. Lincoln have no one else to play 10. Personally I think makene has gone as far as he can. Too many other better players around. Jordan , Gilbert , Ennor , garden bachop , Mckay to name a few

@sammyc That would be an interesting shift for Makene - not a bad idea if he has the skills to do it. I'm doubtful he's got the size to go a long way in NZ as a wing.

A shift I always thought Ben Blair should have tried. He could have been a sort of DMac prototype.

@chris-b i seem to recall Blair playing some 10 at NPC level and may have even had a game or two for the Highlanders at 1st 5. His natural running game and decent boot was more suited to 15.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but I hear another Brumbies player has signed with Auckland this season.
