So my previous experience going out in Rotorua some 15 years ago resulted in nearly getting my head smacked by a large group of youths for simply having the audacity to walk down the street while on crutches. So not the best memories of the nightlife there!

However that was years ago and I've recently befriended an American tourist and am showing her the sites of Rotorua this weekend and of course high on the agenda is to experience a rugby final in a kiwi bar. Anyone got any recommendations of a good pub, ideally with good TV views, non dick-head clientele and maybe even good food?

Just go to Eat street. There are about 12 restaurants/bars all stacked together with covered out door dining. Rifraf stays away and you can watch the footy.

Very close to the Novotel if you are staying there too. Where are you staying if not there and I will think of somewhere closer within walking distance

in that case, lets paraphrase the Bloodhound Gang

"We can do it doggie style so we can both watch the final"

Not been to Rotavegas in a while but I'm pretty sure they still have pubs.

Or are you looking for somewhere trendy and with "Atmosphere"?

Atmosphere would be good. Trying to give a kiwi experience although I might struggle to find that with the chiefs not being involved.

I think there's a pub that used to be the old police station - was there a couple of years ago and seemed quite nice and the sort of place to watch rugby.

That's the one but I was trying to incorporate nice food as well.

Although if you want as many curly fries as you could possibley ever eat, the Pig and Whistle is the place to go

I would recommmend going our for dinner first in eat street (Or if you want to fancy it right up with an outstanding meal, go to Bistro 1284 on Eruera st (You will get mega points for taking her there!)

After dinner go to Pig and Whistle for the match.
