I think what Mears and some of the other cyclists are referring to is that GB only won a few silvers at the 2015 World Championships and a few more golds in March so they they couldn't understand the tragectory but the team aimed to peak for the Olympics, so yes a four year cycle.<br><br>
They target the Olympics as that what provides the funding.

British cycling always aim to peak at Olympics, not world championships - they have been quite public about this, so I'm amazed it's a surprise to anyone

Another measure was, for the entire medal haul, GB people paid equivalent of £1.05 each. Money well spent imo.

This isn't right. I'm used to us being plucky under dogs, heroic failure and all that. Being 2nd in the table is surreal, I'm not sure what to make of it to be honest.

Been away on hols followed by v busy week at work so getting back into it. <br><br>
For a laugh I thought I'd do a pre and post weigh-in see how much I gained.<br><br>
So using same scales at the gym - I left weighing 84kg. <br><br>
2 weeks solid eating and boozing. No exercise.<br><br>
On my return I am 83kg! How does that work?<br><br>
Back at the gym on Sat for the usual pull-ups, dips etc, then a 35 mile ride on Sun. It hurt but now up for a or gym session tonight.

Yeah, I think Quintana's race is run - be good to see Porte leapfrog him for a podium. Ideally I'd love Yates to win it, obv. won't happen but if he got in top 3 with Porte then happy days. GB road cycling team for Rio includes Froome, Thomas, Stannard, Cummins, Yates - some strength in depth there.

27 degrees today - scorchio! Managed a 1hr 10 min burn up at lunch as working from home.<br><br>
It's great cycling in the heat, you only get really hot once stopped in traffic, otherwise contstant breeze! Wouldn't want to do it all day mind.

I'm really enjoying the Cavendish Renaissance and hopefully he'll have another crack today. I like way he can almost hide behind the bigger sprinters in the final lead out to the line and then seems to spring from nowhere. <br><br>
He isn't the most powerful sprinter by a long way, so has to rely on smarts and his ability to go well into the red on his RPMs. Probably why he's such a bolshy bugger when interviewed straight after.

After today's stage I cannot work out whether Quintana is keeping his powder dry for the mountains next week, or if he's a busted flush. I hope it's the former and we see some proper attacks from him because he's shown very little so far.
