Honestly, don't think our first choice 10's are the problem. BB looked more than adequate in 2016-17 - he's clearly kept working on elements of his game. Every single other 10 in the world would like poop behind our pack right now, the problems are exasperated when we don't have Aaron Smith at 9 (although I don't think Weber or Christie are that bad) - its just time for TJ to go.
Josh Ioane isn't the answer, he does some good stuff in the NPC, but even there he doesn't look world class.

    Fix the forwards.
    Get Gilbert on the job.
    Fix the AB's.

    Is Graham Henry available?
He's literally the one guy I think could turn this around by RWC'23.

I just want Razor to have a clean slate post that-France.

Be interesting to see what influence Schmidt has on the Blues defence next year. Might be the guy to bring in to get us playing a more modern and aggressive pattern.

ohhhh. forgot Schmidt was in-town. He'd certainly have an idea about how to build it, and how to break it down. Ireland though were cooked by the time he was finished, Andy Farrell has refreshed them.

Technical advisor like the 2003 Blues?

    Exactly.

If the answer is bringing in a 76 year old retired coach, the issues are worse that I thought.

That's age-ist. Just because the man is 76 doesn't mean a thing. He retired from the AB's at the right time.
But he's also got the experience to cut to the core of any issues, provide clarity over 12 months, and give us a shot.

    Foster on Sky.

Intercept killed us. No. A shoddy first half did, and inability to think clearly,
    Great occasion. Fuck the occasion!
is this a great advert for world rugby? "awesome to be part of it" Good on you Foster, but we need you to coach, not be a "part of it"
Ran out of energy at the end. Horseshit, you picked fresh guys that didn't play last week, you subbed. No excuse for that.
Always knew they'd play fast. Then counter it FFS
Disappointed that lineout drives hurt us. Then get better at defending this
Loved how we came back in third 1/4 - couldn't keep it going. Four quarter game Fozzie, Four quarter game.
"Can you change things around?" I'd love that, last two games big learning curve. What about the last five years? the SA game 2020, Argentina, Ireland. You're not learning shit. You remind me of my Year 13 students doing the same stupid stuff they did in Year 11. If they're not gunna learn, they're not gunna learn.

Stop using the tour as an excuse. The Black Caps don't. Breakers didn't. Warriors didn't.

Jeff Wilson "AB's not on top of their game clearly"

    Season breakdown...

    1. need to get props that do more than just scrum. what happened to the Joe Moody who tore it up at RWC15?
    2. Hookers - we're ok here. Have options. Sami T. is a beast. Coles will always compete. If Cody Taylor can find his form
    3. Locks... Retallick hasn't been the same since the injury prior to RWC'19 - Need to back in a young aggressive lock - Tupou, Josh Lord, whoever.
    4. Loosie mix all kinda fucked, what was once an area of strength, is confused, muddled and unsure who our best 3 and bench is.
    5. Aaron Smith... and then... who? Finlay, Brad W., Fakatava?
    6. Beaudy & Richie can lead us to RWC glory, but not if the forwards don't lay a platform. BB does a bit better, RM has regressed under Foster - here's hoping he can rebuild in Super Rugby
    7. Need some wingers - Caleb Clarke might be useful as a power wing if he can rediscover some form.
    8. ALB needs to be at 12. I don't rate Goodhue, but maybe we are actually missing him? Rieko should be 13. and 14. He's a weapon and has to be on the field. I think Will Jordan should definitely be one wing.
    9. Jordie is our 15.
    10. Players I don't ever want to see in big AB games again - Damien McKenzie, David Haviili, TJ Perenara.
    11. Coaching & coaching succession is fucked. Has been since SBW got the red card in the second Lions test. We showed the template in Game 1. and never went back to it. Everything off 9. Much like the French just played us tonight.

Posted it before, good news is South Africa showed things can be changed in 12months, bad news is I don't believe Foster can do it.

As with the first test against SA, its the 3rd quarter when we use our big carriers up the middle that we look good.

That 20mins was the main positive

It showed the tactics we need to use next year. We have forwards that can get a roll on around the fringes. It's about using them correctly
Taukei’aho, Akira, Savea etc were excellent during that period. They got us back into the game.

We need power in the front row too.

Our biggest issue is that we don't have strong 10s right now and need to reevaluate our kicking game entirely.

Need to re-evaluate a whole lot.
    I don't agree we don't have strong 10's - we have confused 10's.
BB was player of the year two years running. Doesn't make him bad.
RM has shown hes great behind a dominant pack, but struggles hard when we're not doing things right.

Fuck the NZRU appointing Foster until RWC after just the Aussie games.

Ardie Savea leading the team chat post-game in the huddle.

The only good news is the South Africans turned it around in 12 months, the bad news is I don't think Foster can do it...

On the positive side Mils is a pretty good commentator.

Or maybe it just seems that way compared to Marshall.

    Low benchmark.

Can we bench Marshall? He's a hypocritical twat. Need to do this, need to do that... all things he never did.

Havili/ALB midfield lacks a ball carrier. We really could do with a physical 12.

Havili is simply not a top class 12. He's done ok but he's not a long-term solution.

Give him some time. I thought ALB should've come off the bench rather than start straight into that level of intensity. Our midfield tactics were shite.

ALB also spent a lot of time out on the wing I thought. Seemed to be there plenty.

Don't get me wrong, Weber was adequate...but that's in comparison to the shit show that is TJ.

Nock needs to be involved in the ABs. He's got all the materials.

is it Fakatava? spelling? the other Highlanders 9...

Our tight 5 is not as good as the Boks 5. Work to do

Our tight five was 100 times worse when our subs came on.

Yup. Our forwards just aren't there right now. Lots of young guys, a few past their best. And they put it all together tonight

We need Whitelock and cane back and hope next Super Rugby season some young tight fives with mongrel turn up.

Definitely missed Whitelock, and I think we'd like to have Dalton Papalii there. He seems built for games like this one.
I'm a bit half/half on Sam Cane. We miss his tackling, but not his overall work as a 7. Play him at 6.

Can't win all the games, ABs 2010-2015 vintage was something special. It's still a very good team, but losing so many of the World XV was sure to have an impact. Still very likely the best team in the world, Boks lost three on the trot and ABs just the one. But Boks played better on the night.

2016 & 2017 were pretty sharp too. Then Hansen started getting cute with selections and suffered amnesia around how to win World Cups with experience and settled combos. All about the same time we dropped that game to Ireland in the US. Call it the Chicago Curse.

We need a specialist lineout coach, no matter what it costs. Frustrating to see the same weakness 5 games in a row.

no, just need Sam W. back. He has shown he is our first choice lock for the big games. Any other combo can play that lesser lights. But Sam is a must against SA, Eng.

Shit tactics. Didn't adjust to their ruck tactics.

    Very poor captain selection.

No real game plan worse than last week,we learnt nothing.

I blame TJP and Mo'unga at the end. Pick and goes are always 50/50.

Mo'unga really struggles against teams like the Boks and England who are super physical on defense. He got smashed when he came on and hardly featured after that.

I thought Beauden (cross kick in the 2nd half aside) showed why he is our best 10 tonight. Mounga always struggles when his pack is getting beaten. Beauden did good stuff in-spite of a struggling pack.

Just like that hes gone. For someone who's been a captain, christ he's irresponsible

No, thats having a go at the top-order. But he is irresponsible. Look at his body of work - for a senior player - surely he could should show some responsibility from time to time. We were never going to win tonight after that Agar over.
