RWC Final: All Blacks v Springboks

I think the Kolisi one should have been red

If Canes was red (as I felt it was), Kolisi should also have been (it was worse). Either have a rule to protect the head. Or drop them and see rugby destroyed by concussion issues.

I lost interest in the game at this point

Due to an incompetent (or inconsistent) TMO decision. And a shit decision by WR on the 20-minute red card rule

    Too many Canes 😉

Its an issue the Canes have now.

Cam looked every bit as good at this level as at super rugby level. I hope he starts next week. Clearly the no2 HB now

    @pakman good post

Feel I'm nitpicking but I think Weber makes it in front of Christie and Roigard, and then its a matter of incumbent or in form rookie...

Roigard kicking game is outstanding. Far and away better than Smith. His running and passing is VG. He should be in the AB squad. In my view as the number 2 based on SR form. I'd like to see him start in one of the pre RWC games to see how he handles it

Not testing Roigard in the next 2 tests would be idiotic. I hope he starts in 1 and is a replacement in the other. And if he doesn't measure up then he shouldn't be in the RWC squad

We seem to have a lot of fullbacks now if they are thinking of Jordan at 15 as well. Hopefully they are looking at Jordan on the wing.

It's no good being able to play multiple positions if you are not good enough in any of them. Havili shouldn't be near this squad, Crusader bias strikes again.

    The number are (I hope)

    Crusaders 10
    Blues 9
    Chiefs 8
    Canes 7
    MP 1
    Lnader 1

Robertson had a chance to show he was above bias. He failed

    @Canes4life said in Wellington 2022:

Stargazer a quick assessment of the squad:
    Hookers: solid
    Props: very average
    Locks: very average
    Loose forwards: good, but young

I'm bored so did an assessment of the starting forwards

NUMIA (23). Still only 23 and really stepped up this NPC. Without him the Lions wouldn’t have made the final as his backup was poorish. As a result he was often on for the full match. Voted Lions player of the year.
AUMUA (25). Based on this NPC he is now the 2nd best hooker in NZ. And should start next year for the Canes with Coles as his backup. Except for one game (Ak) his lineout throwing was good. And was outstanding in the final.
O’REILLY (27). Didn’t get that much game time but he looked class when he did. The Canes should keep him as their third hooker if they can. The next Lions hooker (Southall) looked no more than adequate.
PEK COWAN (36). VG to start for the first 40 minutes. Thought he was a big loss for the final but not really missed. As Sheck stepped up big time.
SHECK (22). One of the finds of the year. And started in the final and stepped up. Maybe good enough for a Cane’s contract. The TH who replaced him in the final (Siale Lauaki who is 19) did a good job too.
BIRD (31). Played really well game after game. If his body holds up should have a few more years left in him. His performances surprised me.
BLACKWELL (27). At this level he is a quality player. Fronts up week after week. Finally cut out the pass to grass nonsense as well.
PLUMTREE (22) Disappointing. I had very high hopes for him but he started off below expectation as a starting 6. Was replaced by Delany. Did OK as a replacement lock usually for Bird. Or 6 when required.
DELANY (22). High work rate and a quality 6. Maybe an option for the Canes as a starting 6. Needs to bulk up a bit though but is another quality lineout option. Was a key part of a VG backrow.
KIRIFI (25). Surprisingly good after I had almost given up on him. Captain of a team that played as a team after a poor start. In the final keep his discipline so didn’t cost any silly penalties.
LAKAI (19). Outstanding for his age. Surely a future AB. I would like to see him tried at 7 for the Canes. As some may consider him a bit short (1.86) for an AB 8 (I think he is fine as he’s tall enough but is bulkier than Ardie). But he has it all and still only 19. Finished off what turned out to be an excellent back row combination. Along with Higgins 2 exciting young prospects that fortunately have signed with the Canes.
WHITMAN (21). Young and still just an adequate replacement.
FORWARD COACHES. (Tito and Hartford?) Outstanding job. Turned a pathetic pack after 3 games into one of the best Wellington packs I have seen. The pack slowly got better throughout the year and finished with 2 outstanding displays.

I agree with your point. However, Razor should realise that his public comments will drive media coverage.

It was a stupid comment by Robertson. One that should never have been made.

If he had instead strongly supported the current policy and said something like NZ rugby is fortunate to still have world class players to choose from. Instead of putting the focus on players who have left (and indirectly criticising the players who are here) the opposite would have occurred.

    Kirifi really is a dick

    biggest dickhead in NZ Rugby

Well done Wellington, played bloody well.

Don't know what Kirifi has done, apart from play well, he surely captains the team well.

Look, I'm also from the 'Naki... and understand the instinct for a bit of provincial patriotism.
    The guy's a grub.
Constant after-the-ball stuff. Shoving, mouthing off, just... being a dick.
“Oh... you want the game to be tiddly-winks!”
No. I want to be able to have a beer with my opponent after the match.

Hes not so bad. Leader of an impressive forward display

Blackwell and Bird both were impressive. I've slagged Blackwell off at times for the Canes but he stepped up week after week for mostly the full game

Wellington were lucky (esp compared to the Canes and Wellington in recent years) that they had very few injuries. I thought our luck might have run out with Cowan out but both TH props did very well. And Numia once again luckily lasted for the full match as our replacement LH is poor

Lakai at 19 is surely a future AB. Delany is my biggest improver. Numia was a close 2nd. And Kirifi rounded out a great forwrad display. To do what I thought wouldn't happen. Even after Auckland I still had my doubts

Final point. Aumua lineout throwing was first rate in this game. We finally did it.

    @Duluth said in NZR review:

    Stuff
Nicholl says NZRPA will now begin working with its stakeholders to establish that independent panel.

"We aren't going running out of this country or anything like that," he clarified. "We're more committed to rugby and professional rugby in this country than anyone, including the community game and grass roots.

"What we're talking about is a tribunal that comes together in order to ensure really good decisions on behalf of the professional game, to make sure it's effective and efficient as possible, and delivers what the game wants in this country.

"We want to put something together where we come together to make sure we make really good decisions for pro rugby. What we won't do is trust New Zealand Rugby under this government structure to go off and make those decisions by themselves.

The model isn't unprecedented, with French rugby currently operating with a governing body that runs the game alongside the national union.

"It's coming from a perspective of what we feel the professional game is going to need in terms of connecting those stakeholders and getting them together, making good decisions and getting them on the same page getting good alignment.

"So we'd be surprised if people don't want to go down the path."

He gone power mad. Like Union boss that thinks it's all about him

My view this is a great day for rugby. The PU's made a stand and refused to have all the power grabbed from them. But, also realize that NZR needs a much better-quality Board. This might now happen

And Aust now only has 4 super rugby teams. It should be three but 4 is much better than 5.

Rob should accept this decision and see how it works out. If the new Board is as bad as the old one, then do his thing. If he can't do this then step aside. Because he's creating a very negative energy that NZ rugby doesn't need. Esp right now

I lived in England for over 20 years but as this game progressed wanted Scotland to win. Just more adventureous and took their chance's esp with England's defense not a strength

One comment on the BBC website. Saw this made before the game too. Will a change be made here

John Barclay. Former Scotland captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

The Marcus Smith and Owen Farrell axis doesn't work. England were great going forward but how many times did we see Marcus carry the ball to the line? He did that as no one was there to pass to.

If you have someone outside, someone who can bring the power game, and you can change distribution. You saw Smith and Farrell carrying and while they are smart rugby players, they aren't the strongest ball carriers

Razor is a long way from ready for this job. Key for him is to leave the safe CRUSADERS / Canterbury environment and to get some overseas experience. And mature a bit
