Help with a travel itinerary to NZ

Found this site very handy when visiting nz
Iād agree that if you limited time stick to one island. Personally I loved the car trip from gisborne round the east cape. But that was about 2004 so things might have changed. If you have time using small roads is fun. Remember doing Napier to beaches on the hawkes bay coast driving thru the absolute back roads in the wop wops with farmers looking at us wtf but you see off the beaten track scenery.

If passing through Hawke's Bay, check out this page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/758846289555425
General consensus seems to be Shaeno's Brisket pie as being the best (and it is amazing) but I prefer the corned beef (with vegetables, mustard sauce, potato top) from BJ's Bakery

@Stockcar86 noice! Is it proper corned beef?
-
@Stockcar86 I'm in the Hawkes bay at the moment but not a big Facebook user
Who's selling the pie? Will try to get there in her next couple of days!
Edit: found it. Shaneos Bakehouse Hastings. Will try and swing past

You sound surprised?
Suitably impressed that it segued so nicely to pies and beer really.
I was going to mention the lack of chicks being slightly disappointing, but I probably just didn't wait long enough.

How long has Shaneos been on that spot?
Also, do they have meatballs like the previous bakery in that spot did?
-
@Stockcar86 said in Help with a travel itinerary to NZ:
@Nepia Every bakery worth anything in Napier or Hastings has meatballs. They are pretty good from there too
That should be true, but sadly on trips back I have found some that don't have them.
Can you remember what the bakery here used to be called? It's annoying me now.

Sorry. my brain is mush, so can't recall. Here is a closeup of those meatballs... mmmmmmm
