Ireland great and La Rochelle coach Ronan O’Gara has thrown his hat into the Wallabies coaching ring as Rugby Australia confirmed they are open to sourcing overseas candidates for the Wallabies job.

@KiwiMurph would have strong credentials knowing the arch enemy plus the NH experience.

      Cully suggesting Vern Cotter.

I could see that. Will be an interesting sub plot for the next few months.

No fucking way Cheika. Fuck that. Might as well get Eddie back.

        ROG is such a twat.

        These aren't great choices

But he's a coach that puts it all out there for his team, so not a bad idea imo

Which is what Cheika did, while acting the twat, and got the whole Rugby playing part of the nation a reputation while he was at it.

I'd have thought Steve Larkham is a shoe-in to get the Wallabies gig after Joe Schmidt.

So who get's Wallaby job. I wouldn't be surprised if Cheika doesn't get the gig. They could do worse than him.

I think they would rather keep the momentum going of what Schmidt has established so Kiss makes much more sense in my view (has strong ties with Schmidt)

Yep , just Cheika has by coincidence chucked in his job at Leicester a couple of weeks back.
I wonder if RA wants to keep strong coaching teams at super clubs. Cheika has a pretty handy record at international level, with the Wallabies and Pumas?

Of course I could be completely wrong too of course!!:beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:

                Yeah nah

i feel this is one of those times the stats dont give the whole picture, he also got them to the RWC final in 2015...and feel (un researched or confirmed) there was a generational loss of talent in the years afterwards...i feel they might be on the way up again (fingers crossed) and someone like him might be able to do something with that

Cheika is a short term genius. Bring him in for 1-2 years and he works magic, which then wears off as his coaching tactics lose their shine. He also says some wild stuff and can generate a headline.

I don't think that type of coach is what we need right now. I prefer the Dave Rennie/Joe Schmidt-type quiet tactician and I get the sense RA does as well.

@barbarian 100% Dave Rennie/Joe Schmidt would be better for aussie rugby...but neither are an option and im not sure who else is out there thats similar and of international quality

I actually think the best landing spot for Cheika would be the Western Force. Feels like they are stagnating a bit both on and off the field.

Wallabies captain Harry Wilson has committed long-term to Australian Rugby, signing a four-year extension.

The deal sees Wilson commit his future to Queensland and Australia until the end of the 2029 season, the first Wallaby to do so.

Ikitau confirmed to be moving to Exeter after the 2025 Rugby Championship:
                                        https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2025/02/25/exeter-complete-signing-of-australia-centre-len-ikitau/

It looks to be a deal not too dissimilar to what Fainga'anuku has done, where he'll go for a season or two to Europe before returning to Super Rugby. At least, that's what Christy Doran is reporting at The Roar.
