Movie review thread...

Saw Played with Fire at the weekend and really enjoyed it. Certainly better than some of the negative reviews but didn't stun me like Dragon Tattoo did. I went to that as a spur of the moment thing knowing notheing about it.

Saw a Wallander thing years ago and wasn't all that fussed. Might have to revisit.
Scandanavian's have done dark and moody forever. Ibsen, Bergman, Munch... Must be light deprivation and the alcohol issues -

Add the whole Swedish death metal and/or/vs. Norwegian death metal rivalry. (Anybody here remember Burzum? Mayhem?) -
John Carpenter's The Prince of Darkness - A pretty good variation on the devil/anti-christ/end of days theme. Interesting for the most part, although he couldn't sustain the atmosphere through much of the middle section.

The creepiness of the "transmissions" was very impressive - such a simple/cheap bit of footage but very spooky. -
Watched The Omega Man last night - it's based on I Am Legend (the book) and stars Charlston Heston.
Liked it more than the 2007 version by Will Smith - the "vampires" are deformed humans (due to chemical warfare) who have started a cult.
Though I kept waiting for "Get your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape !" to pop up.

6.5/10

Semi-Pro with Will Ferrell. Haven't watched many of his films but enjoyed this one - especially when he fights the bear.
Toy Story 3...

a very good movie, obviously a bit darker than the rest, and even an ending that left me with a lump in my throat! Kids will love it, as most of the more serious stuff will go over thier heads. -
Caught Inception over the weekend, 3 days on still trying to make sense of it.

Great movie non the less, really enjoy Nolan's dark style (could have been set in the same world as Dark Knight almost).

Like many have said, will have to watch again... -
Little-known actress Rooney Mara has landed the lead role in the remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Mara, 25, will play Lisbeth Salander, an investigator with a troubled childhood, in the English language version of the crime thriller.

She will star opposite James Bond actor Daniel Craig, who plays a journalist who teams up with Salander to investigate a disappearance.

The film is based on the first book in Stieg Larsson's best-selling series. Larsson died in 2004, a year before the first of his Millennium trilogy crime novels was published. The Swedish version of the film was released last year.

Mara's biggest role so far was a part in this year's re-make of A Nightmare on Elm Street. She has also appeared on TV shows ER and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The announcement that Mara will play Salander follows months of speculation over who would land the coveted role, with big names such as Natalie Portman, Carey Mulligan and Scarlet Johansson reportedly in the frame.

The film begins shooting next month in Sweden and is due out in December next year.

David Fincher will direct the new version, while Steve Zaillian is writing the screenplay. -
Fincher certainly isnt one of those busy types, without bothering to look him up what has he done recently?
I did look him up, The Curious Case of Ben Button was the last one and he has the Social Network about to come out which will get a lot of press. He has ten (yes ten!) projects in development, which is incredible. -
For him thats a huge work load, if you look (yep i did this time!) he normally has a few years off.
Like Panic Room in 2002 before he did Zodiac in 2007.(and before that it was Fight Club in 1999)

Some of those projects look interesting, cant check them out of course as im not subscribed to IMDB Pro! -
Salt - pretty good, slick action/thriller in the Bourne vein.

7.5/10. -
Anyone seen The Expendables yet?

Something that harnesses the outrageousness of a COBRA, the mayhem of JOHN RAMBO, the manitude of the first 30 minutes of PREDATOR all with a bit of soul, friendship and fist-pumping that I adore from this type of film.
