Rookie Black Caps Rhys Mariu, Mitch Hay get chance to push for test debut in NZ A squad

Next crop of young ones with a mix of Black Caps experience for the NZ A side.
Surely Rhys Mariu is in with a decent shot of being selected for the test side for the Zimbabwe tour going by the numbers he racked up in the Plunket Shield this season.

Incumbents probably want to pad their averages so if he's lucky he mighy get some batting practise in the nets.

I didn't know where to put this, but this is absolutely outrageous. At just 14 years old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has scored the fastest IPL hundred off 35 balls.

And it's not like he was facing a terrible bowling lineup, they had Siraj, Sharma and Washington with plenty of international experience. Yes T20s in India favour the batsmen heavily but that is an absolutely outrageous innings at that age. He also hit his first ever ball in T20 for 6 a few weeks back as well. Crazy talent, going to be interesting to see how he develops - e.g. will he just be a T20 specialist or does he have a game that can translate to tests.

Bit of a sorry looking scorecard for the NZ A side in their One Day Match currently in progress against Bangladesh A. 4 of the top 5 got ducks. NZ A dismissed for 147 off 34 overs. Only bright spots were Rhys Mariu with 42 and Dean Foxcroft with 72. Bangladesh currently 123/3 from 23 overs

Still reckon we should have played Boult over Scott K against England at the Mount. Yes, I can bear a grudge.

Most egregious was not getting warm up games in Aus for our tour. You cannot succeed without acclimatising.

Like I said, some mind boggling decisions. Mainly regarding selection (I can't recall any specific examples now, but I can recall being quite unhappy with some of them. Bracewell wasting a spot on the test team was one). If it was his decision to forgoe warm up games before the Australian tour, then that was a poor decision

Allowing Henry Nicholls to play on longer than he should have would have been one. It actually seems recently that we have started to promote a lot more fresh talent (maybe this hasn't been by choice) whereas previously we would keep playing the same players regardless of form.

Probably the worst selection was allowing Southee a farewell tour when we should have been going all out for a spot in the WTC final.

                    In tests we:

                    • Lost to Bangladesh at home

                    • Whitewashed by Australia home & away

                    • Whitewashed by England away and lost at home

                    • Whitewashed by SL in SL

The WTC win was Hesson's team, Stead just came in and continued what Hesson was doing, since that point the team was on a steady decline. We also have no trophy's since then for our supposed "golden generation" - we made the knockouts 4 times but won none of them. We're not a middling team anymore, we shouldn't be content with almost winning. Stead is the epitome of a nearly man, a runners-up coach, always the bridesmaid. Someone like a Fleming would've provided the critical extra 1% that would've helped us over the line in a few of those finals.

There were stories about Southee replacing Anderson as the England bowling consultant. That seems to have gone quiet.

Pakistani is like India corrupt at the top if he plays the game maybe he can last a couple of years but that is a harsh environment to succeed as a coach, differences of faith, match fixing makes big money for syndicates and you can't say no if you care about your family.

What we can take from this is that Hess loves money. He will coach the side out of Dunedin. Can't see him spending too long in a country constantly being threatened by nuclear bombs

They don't get the India money though (obviously) and aren't (or certainly weren't) super wealthy.

Remember when Mohammed Asif got pinged for spot fixing at Lords? He was on 35k USD/year as an international bowler. Given that was a fair few years ago, but Pakistan wasn't splashing money around then - no idea how it is now

What we can take from this is that Hess loves money.

Better than that now,Pakistan 20/20 comp puts more money in to the local scene.

Seems like they were willing to pay Watson $2mil a year last year.

Hess will also need to stand down for his Indian roles

Looks like there will be a new Black Caps coach and it will either be Shane Bond or Rob Walter. Stead out altogether.

Two metre Peter will be annoyed, thought he was well in the frame.
