That tearful apology was just awful. For him, for the AB's, for his friends and family. This is so out of control. The only people he owed an apology to was his girlfriend and the NZRU for being a douchebag when on duty. Everyone else can fuck off. But when he says it disapprovingly wearing his broadcaster hat (PS I didn't dare watch the news last night) then nobodies like me can snigger at him and point to his own life, which to me somewhat lessens the criticism of Smith.

I suspect in private Dallow's thoughts about the Smith incident were "big fucking deal" or "shit, I remember nailing blondie X in the level three toilet at Friday drinks and it wasn't that comfortable but I got there in the end" or "I hope that viewer Tregaskis doesn't remember some shit about me".
However, he is not allowed to say "Nope boss, I don't want to raise my eyebrows or finish any of Wendy Petrie's paragraphs in this entire segment" because it was the lead-off batter in the "news" last night.
