@NTA we have more than one of our premiership winners from last year rocking up well into the season...and theyre saying the right thing....but you know theyre going to think twice if we make the play up through the grades...but we've had new guys who signed up in Jan and have shown commitment since then who i would not want to drop if it wasn't earnt

A local club in a division just above us is in deep shit - during a 53-0 flogging as the home side, they conceded two red cards and 3 yellow cards and were accused of eye gouging and various other crimes.
The ref, who I know to be a solid operator, threatened to call the game off if behaviour didn't improve, but it was line ball pretty much after that.
Doesn't help that the away team are known to have a feral sideline; the ref at one point called the away Skipper over and asked him to address his supporters.
-
There's potential upside for us; I've been wondering how to approach some of the players at the home side as the y're just up the road.
Most of the players, some of whom are ex-Renegades, can go and get fucked, but there are a couple of tight forwards I'd be keen to see in our colours

the old story "registrations are closed.....tight forwards always welcome", i know it well

Born this century and play front row...

funny but not uncommon story from the weekend, big injury toll currently and a few people away so even with 160 registered players we were very light in 3's and 4's....put out a call to old players, guys that couldn't commit to the whole season or whatever, cue messages from guys that have played on and off for maybe a decade...."can i buy socks?"....."how do you register?"...."where is "X" club again?"..."whats time do the 3s play again?"......the fact the answer to the last three questions hasn't changed in more than a decade....and yet they still have to ask....might explain why they've lost their socks!

We had a guy we called Master of (Sock) Puppets because he must have had a fucking collection of close to 20. Most of the Islanders didn't get the Metallica reference.
I realise rugby isn't top of mind for a lot of these guys, but I do wonder how they stumble through life.
And it gives me confidence I could quit my job and things would just work out.
-
i know right!
it also annoys me when they want socks...dont want to pay so you find an old pair...then they cut the foot off them...and then leave them in the changing room...just dont bother!....you're also playing 3's so i dont really care if your wearing the right socks

Very much fucked off with Parra Eels right now.
I helped arrange the final of a local schools comp for their flashy new field. Even had to move it a week to get availability - right up against school holidays. These are Opens XVs (school leavers in some cases) so need to run it this term before they start HSC.
Everything was fine until a phone call this morning. They're apparently moving their reserve grade women's TRIAL FUCKING MATCH to the venue the same night.
Get.
Fucked.
The schools comp director is not pleased and now I feel like a total fucking idiot.

Second Grade had a big win on the weekend against Sydney Convicts - the gay and inclusive team.
First Grade .... was weird... For starters, we got one penalty in the 2nd minute of the game.
That was it.
The whole game.Final penalty count I have as 15-1 against after reviewing the video, and a bunch of non-decisions that hurt us as well.
Then there are the cards...
Our 2 grades had a Yellow Card each going into Saturday for tackling - that's 14 games including some blowouts against us and some wins for us.
We had one yellow card in the 2nd Grade game on Saturday for a thumping tackle that I thought was marginal. The guy who got it already laid out 2 guys by reading their attack easily.
And then in the space of about 20 minutes in First Grade, just after halftime, we suddenly had 2 more YC and a RC.
So we've gone from 3 yellow cards over 15 games to suddenly 5 YC + 1 RC in 16.
TBH I'm still scratching my head at the refereeing decisions. I went back through the video as objectively as I could and some of them still don't make sense in terms of consistency.
-
Of course the cameraman completely missed the Red Card, so no chance of getting it thrown out that way
and while the opposition had a Veo set up on the opposite side of the ground, and they've promised to get it to me, it seems they've suddenly run into technical issues
Not saying it's suspect, as we won't play them again this year and so they have nothing to gain by denying us the footage.

Wayne Barnes out of retirement?

Barnes would at least stop and explain his decisions.
This guy blew the whistle, pulled out a red card as he was walking to the penalty mark and just held it up while facing the sideline.
No double blast on the whistle to call time off.
No checking on the tackled player (who was on his feet anyway).
No checking with sideline officials - and I was in full ref kit.
No clearing players from both sides away from the mark, before asking the captain and the player over to explain the sanction. It was highly unusual.
I was running the flag on the far side and didn't even see the card come out (it happened in the centre of hte pitch)
Game stopped while everyone tried to figure out what was going on and whether it would continue.
