I had thought about Kolose, but I'm not sure if he is eligible.

A quick Google search showed that Kolose played for a Māori 17s rep team in league, around 2020. So I figured he'd be eligible.

Hopefully he gets the nod ahead of Apisai then.

Hetet named by Fiji. Is Kautai available? A cert if he is. Proffitt?

Don't think Proffitt is available or he would've been selected last year?

Ridiculous to name a squad 4 days out from a game and then they have to get on a plane for 11 hours

With Norris in the AB squad, Mason Tupaea will have to be one of the props now. He was an injury replacement in Japan last year.

Can’t think of too many other options at loosehead. Possibly Josh Bartlett?

This is why the Maori concept is fucking stupid as it is currently being used.

Just merge the ABXV and Maori and allow non-Maori to play for them.

If we are going to have a Maori team, they can have games against the islands and let's get the ABXV playing these games.

Suspect(/hope) a lot of the squad have already assembled and been in training.

Kershawl Sykes-Martin can play both sides of the scrum. Suspect he must be in the mix if fit

Yes, and this announcement is restricted by having to be after the AB squad. They will all be in Auckland ready to depart ASAP.

Maybe I haven’t been looking in the right places but can’t say they made it readily visible on the AB website.

The match against the Japan XV overlaps with the Force-BIL game.

I’ll admit that I didn’t watch much of Auckland in last years NPC, but that’s a name I haven’t heard for a while. Given the production line of quality Maori halfbacks over the years, he now gets his first opportunity.

@ACT-Crusader yeah, weirdly halfback probably looks the weakest, although wing doesn't look that flash either.

It will be interesting to see how the Maori coaches select their game squads. We will want to have our strongest XV for the Scotland game, so do we start 10 or 11 of our best XV and have the other 4-5 on the bench to get a run. Then the other positions are up for the bench roles.
