A couple of defensive errors made them look good.

Just on this, the French attack did some nice things when they had the opportunity as well.

The second French try of the second half, which started with the van Tonder linebreak, came from the French reserve tighthead, Montagne, throwing a cut-out pass.

There is not a defender in world rugby which thinks that from this situation, the tighthead is going to fling a bullet across the face of the defensive line. Beautiful play by Montagne, a play any first five would be proud of.

@Mauss Vive La France. They've got the skills and the vision to produce the magic.

But the flip side of the coin is that it's a pretty crap defensive line by the All Blacks. I don't think South Africa, France, Ireland or England would have had such poor line speed and leave a big gap in the middle straight after half time. And it's not the first time to put it mildly, the French reserve prop had been coached on what to look for.

@Victor-Meldrew It’s a good read. And it’s ghost written by Gregor Paul, who had been one of his biggest critics. I was impressed by his insights. But he was clearly undone off the field by some very political operators at NZ Rugby who were all about maximising value from the Silver Lake private equity funders and on the field by the perennial second guessers at World Rugby

Not going to get into any Foster discussions, except to say I hope Robinson isn't treated as shabbily by NZR as Foster was. Utterly unedifying and a symptom of something rotten.

I said innocuous originally. No material contact. Nothing that impeded him sufficiently to change the play. As Antipodean said, it didn’t even change their coverage

But I’ve been on this forum long enough to know the futility of arguing with you so I’ll leave it at that

Well that's one way to concede, glad we agree there was contact.

That's a sad way to tacitly admit your claim it changed the defence from being able to cover off Beauden's pass is as bullshit as the TMO's adjudication.

That was my initial take, but replays showed it was a full on block, BB clearly ran behind him and the defender could have pressed forward and put pressure on the attack if he wasn't obstructed. He was full on checked by Tosi.

Apparently this was the All Blacks 500th win in Test Rugby. Grateful to have witness more than few of those.

                    Here's to the next 500!

@Canes4life Generally true, but even I thought Billy Prcotor was poor tonight.

Surely you start him again, it’s literally his first start. He’ll only going to get better as he gets more comfortable.

He started vs Fiji last year didn't he?

Oh yup you’re correct. He just needs time, he’s classy enough to bounce back. He’s shown he’s the best centre in New Zealand, just needs to put it all together. No better chance at home next week.

He's shown he's the best Super Rugby centre in NZ. Test wise jury is still out

I would start him next week too. There will be enough changes already with Reece out.

He's been poor 100% in Tests. Terrible defender and created absolutely nothing tonight - the very thing Rieko gets shit for.

That's not true. He didn't have a great game but he was involved in Jordie's try just before halftime and several other clever passes. But his blunders were huge blunders.

Super Rugby is no longer the premier competition without the Saffas it's becoming harder and harder for the ABs to build enough depth to field a dominant test side when they're only playing against themselves and the Aussies, the deck is stacked against it.

All of the top 14 basically has 2 teams, the likes of Toulouse and Bordeaux go away from home in a top 14 game and make 16-17-18 changes to the 23, they have about 70 players who can play at test level.

21-13 at halftime and a yellow card and tiring Frenchies in the second half. Not sure what happened but our bench weren't much of an improvement perhaps. But I'm not sure where the weakness on the bench was.

Innocuous contact on a player that had no chance to make a tackle. Worst thing about it is that it encourages all defenders to just take a dive in similar situations. Just ludicrous.

The TMO should be forced to watch the last 10 years of Ireland tests

That was my initial take, but replays showed it was a full on block, BB clearly ran behind him and the defender could have pressed forward and put pressure on the attack if he wasn't obstructed. He was full on checked by Tosi.

If BB was over ruling the coaches he wouldn’t be starting so often. As @reprobate said it seems clear it’s the ABs game plan. If you don’t like the tactics blame Robertson

Which is a great concern not just because it is a shit tactic, but also because the previous two coaching regimes tried the same tactic with the same player and it proved to be an utter failure.

We have a problem at 13, and we have a question at 6 (does Tuopu V stay there? Worked hard, did well, worked hard, great in lineout (like Holland), but looked a bit like a lock trying to work out how to play and where as a 6) and we have a speed problem on both wings (if Jordan stays at 15). I'm not sure that Rieko should stay in the squad.
But we really have a problem at 10 when you compare field kicking and management to France. BB kicked his penalties and conversions very well but he just doesn't draw his man or make snappy passes like DMac. I feel we still don't know who our 10 should be.
nB at 51:20 Jordan was wrapped in the air by Gabin Villière-yellow card, ref! (Me, biased?)

I thought Jordan played very well throughout this game but at that point, when he was alone in possession inside his own 22, he just needed to kick and find touch around the halfway line and allow the team to reset.

They're improving in their decision-making but they're still susceptible to some silly errors. It's like the famous Shakespeare line: "My kingdom for some relatively intelligent backs."
