Sititi is in a moon boot for a few more weeks. The first Arg test is not until Aug 17.

@Frank he certainly has potential though not in the same stage of development as Parker.

If we're going to play a lock at 6, why on Richie's green earth wouldn't you look at Naitoa?

Think he was there as a training body.

Agree, but it's even more general: if we're going to play a lock at 6, why would you only select 4?

That's really good stuff. ABs out in the community but also the video itself and getting that out to the fans.

Most teams are doing this now so good to see the ABs move with the times.

I hate all the social media stuff.

I preferred when they were aloof, mysterious, unapproachable, arseholes.

On the small 7 front, Tizzano and McReight seem broadly similar sized to Kirifi but the former at least, and arguably the latter, seem to have more go forward. Is that technique, or something else?

I don't see the point in playing Finau off the bench, yes he played there a bit this year, but if we want to see if he's our Kaino-like (acknowledging no one will ever be completely that level) then he has to start.

It is completely weird to pick a 6 in a squad, the only true blue 6, and then play him off the bench.

They have a bunch of pieces that don't quite fit. Or they can't make them fit yet

If they're just killing time until bringing back Frizell my ditching of rugby might happen sooner than I thought.

Simon Parker is the guy I hope they are waiting on

Even then there's a bit of great white hype about him, he had a great season, but we'll need to see him in black and probably another season to see whether he has the goods consistently. Hopefully his injury clears up in time for him to get some AB game time. But yep agree, even with the reservations above, definitely hope it's him instead of the Tongan imposter.

Speaking of great white hypes, whatever happened to Gardiner? He has certainly fell off the radar since the Fern had a collective wank about him when playing for the AB XV. 🙂

He always seems to be injured and when he does get chance he is prone to doing stupid things. Pity, because he did look good for a short period of time.

Kirifi has shown more than enough go forward at lower levels. The test level sample size is fucking 15 minutes, let's stop overthinking it.

Kirifi has shown more than enough go forward at lower levels. The test level sample size is fucking 15 minutes, let's stop overthinking it.

The takeaway is that 7s his size are not too small.

On the small 7 front, Tizzano and McReight seem broadly similar sized to Kirifi but the former at least, and arguably the latter, seem to have more go forward. Is that technique, or something else?

Comparing to Sonny Bills timeline he went to French rugby in 2008 and was playing NPC for Canterbury in 2010 and the Crusaders in 2011. So it would appear to be an even tighter timeline than SBW.

I'd love to know to what extent the NZR and the coaches build relationships when this stuff happens to increase the likelihood of being able to integrate the player into the All Blacks setup, of the stars align.

From what I can recall Tana was with SBW in France and may have acted as a bridge builder in this sense.

Both Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Brad Thorn (who turned it down) were selected after their first Super Rugby and NPC seasons respectively but they were selected on reputation and name as much as for their performance on field and neither was selected in a World Cup year. It’d be a big gamble to pick a league convert for the first time in a World Cup year not knowing how well they’ll make the step up. He’d have to be an absolute stand out in Super Rugby.
