Superman
Minor spoilers ahead maybe. I guess.
The Boy and I had a spare Sunday - Miss TA studying for exams, Mrs TA off catching up with her friends. I dropped some things at the rugby ground and then saw there was a Gold Class session in 40 minutes. Messaged The Boy, got home and showered up. Got to the counter - we had 2 free tickets in our loyalty thing, so we ordered food and headed in.
Love it when a plan comes together.
Had heard mixed things about the flick, despite the supposed press embargo, and it's DC so I set my expectations low.
I was pleasantly surprised. I liked how they jumped straight past the "Yep there are supes and yep they've revealed themselves so we're in that universe. Moving on".
I'm not up to date with the Gods And Monsters storyline. Nerd.
I liked this approach rather than the whole Superman-of-mystery thing, jumping right into an almost camp setting for big fucking lizards and seemingly invincible robots.
Helluva lot of fun IMHO and Gunn handled it well, giving a sense of humanity to the superhuman and blending the action and story telling reasonably well.
My favourite bit was the guitar playing the theme when Supes is getting his mojo back. About 30 seconds into the sound track clip below. Gave me goosebumps.
4 annoying dogs out of 5 pocket universes.

I too enjoyed Superman but would only give it 3.5 hoha dogs out of 5 pocket universes.
I thought it took a while to get going and like most modern blockbusters had too many fight scenes.
But definitely a Gunn movie, very funny at times, and his trademark musical fight scene.
A welcome change from the Snyderverse, and DC looking good going forward.
@NTA You had two free Gold Class tickets????? Nice work.

Dark and depressing
3 AKs out of 5 not OKs

@MiketheSnow jesus double took on the poster photo, I have a vague memory of a very similar one of me next to my shit hot Honda Shuttle in the 90s.

Classic documentary in the ‘King of Kong’ vein
4 bandits out of 5 outlaws

Yeah, the Superman movie is better than average, looks gorgeous and is very funny. Nicholas Hoult steals the show as Lex Luther.
The lead actor lacks Christopher Reeve's charisma and the last ten minutes felt like they were setting up future movies too much. But apart from that it was a fun way to spend two hours and a bit.
And I liked the bits with the CGI dog.
It's one of those films that if you are going to watch then see it on as big a screen as you can. I'm not sure I'd have enjoyed it half as much if I'd seen it on a plane or on an IPad.

Happy Gilmore 2.
Stupid plot, low brow humour, lots of references to the original and a cast of all star golf talent. It is what it is and I actually enjoyed it. Would have preferred to see more of Paige though.3 chubbs Petersons out of 5 shooter McGavins

Downvote. It’s fucking awesome.
5 out of 5. Laughed my arse off and so cleverly done. So many cameos.
Rory can’t act at all, part of the charm of it.
-
@MajorRage I just watched it, and agree!
Always a battle being a sequel to a cult classic, but I think it hit most of the marks retaining alot of the silly humour, returning characters, new ones, cameos, poking fun at LIV, enjoyable!
4.5 Charlie Hulls out of 5 Paige Spiranacs

I gave Once upon a time in Hollywood another watch.
Probably 4-5 times in total now.
Gee whiz it’s the hardest Tarantino movie to rate in my opinion.
Leo is fucken cool and Brad is even cooler. Their chemistry is awesome. Margot Robbie is lovely to look at. It is full of snappy dialogue ( of course ). The period is captured brilliantly. The Spahn ranch scene and finale are awesomely violent.
BUT…..
There is heaps of pointless filler, it really, really drags at times. I really drifted off in some scenes. There is fuck all in terms of actual storyline
I still can’t decide where it ranks overall, at its absolute best it’s well up there……but at its worst it’s down there……
So it’s probably about 5th out of 10 ( assuming you rank Kill Bill as two films )

What’s really impressive about it is it’s stacked cast of unknowns at the time…
Austin Butler, Mikey Madison, Sydney Sweeney, Margaret Qualley. Maya Hawke
All pretty big now (pun intended re Sydney Sweeney)
And of course it wouldn’t be a Tarantino movie without feet -

She’s about the hottest chick in Hollywood at the moment.
Pulp Fiction
Inglorious Basterds
Django
Reservoir Dogs
OUATIH
Jackie Brown
KB2
H8ful 8
KB 1
Death ProofEven then I’m not sure how accurate this list is ( I haven’t watched Pulp Fiction in years, is it still number one ? Django improves every time I see it, Jackie Brown is great but others have surpassed it etc ) the only sure thing is the one that sits last and even that has some awesome moments.
