Leroy Bert Carter (born 24 February 1999) is a New Zealand professional rugby union player who plays as a half-back for National Provincial Championship club Bay of Plenty and the New Zealand national sevens team.

Every time I have seen him play NPC he has been on the wing.

Well I guess that settles it.
    Case closed!

Can you point to a body of work at 9 that suggests Carter is anywhere near good enough to be the reserve half back for the ABs? A handful of games at NPC level a couple of seasons ago is all anybody has come up with.

Rugbyhistory is good for position checks, although it lags a year behind:

VCS Websites (NZ) - Lower Hutt and Wellington www.vcsnet.co.nz

Leroy B Carter | New Zealand Rugby History

Leroy B Carter | New Zealand Rugby History

    2019: Halfback [1], Sub [10] - 11 games
    2019: NZ Under 20: Halfback [4], Sub [3] - 7 games - 1 try (5 pts)
    2020: Sub - 4 games - 1 try (5 pts)
    2021: NZ Barbarians: Sub - 1 game
    2021: Wing [5], Halfback [1] - 6 games - 3 tries (15 pts)
    2022: Wing - 3 games - 3 tries (15 pts)
    2023: Wing - 5 games - 5 tries (25 pts)
    2024: Wing - 11 games - 4 tries (20 pts)

(when the team isn't listed, it's NPC)

In many ways new 10s outside BB and DM are like lambs to the slaughter. They get very little time to prove themselves at All Black level, largely due to the high expectations we have of the men in black.

We need the early season game against a Pacific Island team that we used to employ.

Blood youngsters, smash a minnow, cap and scrap some players so nobody else can have em.

    The halcyon days.

Makes sense. Christie was the 9 chosen to come to the AB camp in the days before the AB squad was named for the French series so was 4th in line.

Develop a youngster, we already have Roigard and Ratima at test level.

Agreed. If Christie is going to be your 4th best, then you may as well opt for someone new.
