I gave Once upon a time in Hollywood another watch.

Probably 4-5 times in total now.

Gee whiz it’s the hardest Tarantino movie to rate in my opinion.

Leo is fucken cool and Brad is even cooler. Their chemistry is awesome. Margot Robbie is lovely to look at. It is full of snappy dialogue ( of course ). The period is captured brilliantly. The Spahn ranch scene and finale are awesomely violent.

    BUT…..

There is heaps of pointless filler, it really, really drags at times. I really drifted off in some scenes. There is fuck all in terms of actual storyline

I still can’t decide where it ranks overall, at its absolute best it’s well up there……but at its worst it’s down there……

So it’s probably about 5th out of 10 ( assuming you rank Kill Bill as two films )

What’s really impressive about it is it’s stacked cast of unknowns at the time…
Austin Butler, Mikey Madison, Sydney Sweeney, Margaret Qualley. Maya Hawke
All pretty big now (pun intended re Sydney Sweeney)
And of course it wouldn’t be a Tarantino movie without feet

    Death Proof

Even then I’m not sure how accurate this list is ( I haven’t watched Pulp Fiction in years, is it still number one ? Django improves every time I see it, Jackie Brown is great but others have surpassed it etc ) the only sure thing is the one that sits last and even that has some awesome moments.

Flight of Fury added to download list

Finally got around to watching: Flight of Fury

    • Didn't make it through opening titles before several times exclaiming "What the fuck - that doesn't make any sense"
    • Hasn't gotten any better
    • 20 minutes in - and the bad guy has exactly the same sunglasses as me... I'm not sure whether I'm pleased or not
    • I'm already pretty drunk, but thinking I'm going to go try some medicinal mary-jane to help me through the rest of this
    • Exactly the same fucking sunnies. I've never seen them anywhere else. What a prick.
    • This is soooo bad. I started listing all the wrong shit... it was starting to get out-of-hand at 45-minute mark. Let's just leave it as "soooo bad".
      • But can't ignore a sapphic scene, in Afghanistan, with a non-zero tit-count. WTAF... Seagal - you're a monster or a genius
    • 70m in - I don't even know how to explain how bad this is. Stephen Seagal is a retard. And I most definitely mean that in the old-school non-PC sense.
      • "None of this makes even a lick of sense" - Kruse 1:25
      • Every 10 minutes, I think this can't get any worse, and then... well fucking done Steve. Well fucking done.
      • Wow... even until the final couple of minutes.... just worse and worse

I never thought I'd rate a movie with a non-zero tit-watch as low as this.
    So bad. No numbers.

Having read your review with some enthusiasm, I felt compelled to visit Wiki to see what the plot, etc is like. If anything it seems a lot worse that your review would suggest, which is some accomplishment.

Plot is trying to be Firefox starring Clint Eastwood.
Except... Stephen Seagal is no Clint Eastwood. And every other attribute has a similar drop-off in quality.
One minute the Special Forces team are Navy Seals, then they're Rangers, and later on they're a Seal team again. Both branches probably pressured the writers to make it the other - because whoever they were, they were fucking incompetent.
US Navy deploying F-16s with desert camo from a carrier.
Every single shot of footage re: any military - grainy stock footage from the 80s.
And then... fuck, every 10 minutes there would be some nonsensical scene/exchange. SS: "Where's my SEAL team?" (SEAL/Ranger team was long-dead by this point) General: "We're prepping a team to insert..." SS: "Don't worry about it."
Bizarre interactions between Navy Admiral and Navy Colonel... like the writer wanted it to be tension between a "hawk" and more conservative - but the editing team didn't realise that.
Set in Afghanistan, the bad guys have a henchman with STRONG british accent, and a henchwoman. Seagal has his contact in Afghanistan - Jennifer, with whom he has a past, and seems to be running a brothel or similar? In Afghanistan.
    I preferred Velocipastor to this.

Edit: sorry, I can't get over this... thing. I just remembered that I rewinded/rewound the end credits several times to confirm - nobody ever claimed Director or Writer credits... and I thought "fair-e-fucking-nough". Just now, looking it up on IMDB - I skipped past that to see that the plot summary has this abomination occurring in "Banansistan"? WTAF?

    Jurassic World Rebirth

Once you suspend any critical faculties (yeah I know ... dinosaurs ... ) or any pretense that this had anything to do with Jurassic Park, but was actually Indiana Jones meets Tomb Raider meets Jumanji it becomes quite enjoyable.

Forget the gaping plot holes (i.e., how the hell is the electricity still working?) it's a movie about beautiful people adventuring around the tropics seeking out monsters while channelling Avatar and Avatar sequels and reimagining scenes from the original.

Pretty sure it will struggle at the Ocars but an enjoyable way to spend a rainy Sunday morning.

3.5 demented seagull looking things out of 5 why does that creature look like the Predator?

Watched this on the weekend, had some of the original vibes, thought it was decent enough watch.

3.5 why would you go there out of 5 the boss Dino looked more like 'the' Alien

Over a week late, but I was on my social media ban so missed it. I think OUATH is top 4 for me. (Wonder if my list has changed since the last time we did this.)

Pulp and Reservior have the benefit of being the first and the most rewatched, and I don't tend to rewatch movies as often anymore, so they maybe safe at the top.

I think KB2 blew the promise of KB1, and I actually found it quite boring. Also I only saw Death Proof fairly recently and was pleased it wasn't as bad (comparatively) as I was led to believe.

Fair call. I enjoyed KB2 more cos of Michael Madsen, more David Carradine than the first one and the ridiculous but hilarious scenes with Pai Mei. Other than that can’t really fault your list although as I mentioned I wonder if RD and PF get by on nostalgia more than being genuinely at the top.

    Mission Impossible

    • 1996
    • Just started - but holy shit - apparently the in-flight entertainment systems in those days were absolute dog-shit
    • Made me think back, as I originally thought it was bullshit - then realised: I never flew internationally until ~2002
      • And then... the "franchise" is fucking 30 years old? The difference in style... FFS...
    • Anybody here old enough to confirm - did they really come down the aisle offering tapes to insert into playing devices for a fucking 7" screen - in first-class?
    • What the fuck was cattle-class like? Force-fed "Friends" on a shared screen, I assume?

IMHO MI:1 was the closest in style to the original series by some margin. I still remember Peter Phelps carrying his big suitcase with the tape machine inside. And the masks and stuff, all classic nods to the original

Back in the 1980s on international flights, you could listen through headphones that made your ears sore to a choice of half a dozen radio feeds or watch a movie of the airline's choice on a tiny shared screen about 25 metres away.

On flights between Auckland and London, I used to pack a big book like the Lord of the Rings, Don Quixote or War and Peace to read while in the air.

On a positive note, I remember as a kid being taken up to see the captain in the cockpit of a 747 on a flight to the US. And taking metal cutlery as a souvenir. Bloody terrorists ruined everything

Too much effort to look up prior reviews. Just watched Bridget Jones Diary ((Mad about a boy) with my wife on a plane.

Actually really good, good writing, Hugh Grant very funny. A decent non CGI British comedy, don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older but themes and jokes really good,

    Barry Lyndon

A three hour Stanley Kubrick movie from 1975 set in the 18th century. Now lots of people think this is a masterpiece of cinematography and lighting. That may be true, but the acting is wooden (especially Ryan O'Neal) and the entire plot is not helped by a pace that would make a sloth a 100m final contender.

Also no tits which is a crime for "high art eighteenth century" film.

    The Commuter.

Liam Neeson plays Liam Neeson, again. It's an easy watching, enjoyable, action flick. When it got to the last scene, I realised i'd seen it before, so I guess it could probably also be referred to as forgettable.

That movie was released in 2018. I was sure it came out at least 5 years earlier.

Workman-like, but definitely one of the better late period Neeson movies.

Wow, really thought it came out around the same time as his Air Marshall movie (apparently 2014).

I'm a Kubrick fan but have to agree wholeheartedly. Barry Lyndon is a technical tour-de-force with no soul
