EPL 2025/26

Usually too hard to tell this early into the season as to who's good and who's not, apart from your Liverpool's, Man City etc.
From a Villa point of view, with Ramsey and possibly Bailey out the door, maybe a late flurry in the trasfer window? We're looking a bit thin depth wise especially centre back and maybe another attacker. Asensio rumoured to return, hopefully one or 2 more.
Bloody PSR rules.

Stat watch: Chris Wood on 91 premier league goals. Will be a fantastic achievement to get to 100.
A wonder he never got a decent run at one of the bigger clubs. Just not sexy enough clearly, but he certainly knows the way to goal
-
It's a bit anachronistic when comparing even to the start of the premier league, but if you look at the list of guys with 100 goals, almost all of them have played for at least one of Liverpool, Arsenal, either Manchester, Chelsea or Spurs. Shearer, Vardy, and Matt Le Tissier are the only exceptions (and both Shearer and Vardy won a premier league title).
Of course there are also a fair few names that only had short stints at a big club in that list too.

He's not really suited to how big teams want to play. He's a strong powerful centre forward who plays specifically between the sticks, like an old school forward, and a lot of teams up the ladder either don't play a specific striker, of if they do, they're expected to play all round the park and help contribute in building up play. Haaland is kind of an exception to this, and, well, his stats tell us why.

United looked better than Arsenal but it was mainly huffing and puffing.
Arsenal (under Wenger) have played much better than Man U at OT in the past and lost. Soft by Bayındır as Raya was in exactly the same situation and punched the ball away.

Morgan Rogers won PFA Young Player of the Year for 2024/5.
Mo Salah won PFA Player of the Year for the period.
The PFA Team of the Year was:
Sels
Saliba, Gabriel, Van Dijk, Kerkez
MacAllister, Gravenberch, Rice
Salah, Isak, Wood -

Now only two Kiwis on their books.
Although only Wood part of playing squad, Tyler is loaned out to a championship club

And Eze to spurs, no scratch that Arsenal with late swoop
Adli confirmed for Bournemouth tooMeanwhile Wissa and Izak continue to throw tantrums
-
Big win (5-1) last night for Chelsea away at West Ham.
Graham Potter the West Ham boss under all sorts of pressure.

Yeah didnt look to bad going forward but awful at the back. 8 goals conceded this early doesn’t help
-
Spurs lay down an early marker beating City at the Etihad. The Thomas Frank effect is clear, we were more solid at the back, our midfield looked strong with Palhinha, Sarr and Bentancur. The energy was great, we seemed a step quicker all day and deserved the 2-0 win

And didn't he look happy to be at the Emirates.

Anyone hear the stat about Chris Wood, didn’t hear it correctly, but something like tied with most goals vs all current players with Haaland in EPL when you exclude penalties? If true that is sensational and if he scores today he leads the comp.

Not sure I understand that stat! Can you explain?

I believe from the comms team they said out of current active players in EPL he is tied for leading amount of goals scored with Haaland, when you exclude penalties. Didnt believe it myself but haven’t checked
-
Yeah that's wrong. Firstly, he's scored more goals than Haaland (and the margin is wider when you exclude penalties).
Looks like Wood is second overall amongst players active in the EPL - only behind Salah (who has more than double Wood's total). Kane and Lukaku also have more, but are in other leagues.

Yeah Salah was the guy I thought of. It does show how hard it is to be a consistent EPL scorer through many seasons
