My suggestion was to have a bench of Taukei’aho, Williams, Tosi, Lord, Sititi, Lakai, Carter and McKenzie, forming our own bomb squad. Perfect test to try it

The coaching setup have finally got around to copying a 5yr-old Rassie idea rather than coming up with fresh thinking?

Huge congratulations to Codie Taylor on reaching 100 Tests. He's been around since 2015. He watched and learned from the great Dane Coles, worked damn hard and has now become perhaps the first name on the AB team sheet.

Can remember when he was regarded on here with Christie-like reverence.

Kinda ludicrous that we currently have a forward pack that we can't fit everyone in and a backline seemingly comprised of the Illford 2nd 15

To be fair, Taylor was in garbage form throughout all of 2022. Maybe he had to play himself back into form for the All Blacks but that's not a luxury other players get afforded. Could he have regained his form if he'd been dropped? Potentially.

What matters is the BEST team, not whether it is the product of "fresh thinking" or not

Yeah that combined with ST in probably career best form. It wasn't pretty.

I recall him being roundly lauded as of the 2017 Lions, so took a year or so to get over?

Feel free to actually include some context.

In 2022 Codie Taylor's form fell of a cliff. From memory there was some oil in here that he had some off the field issues he was working through

In 2022 Samisoni had a breakout year and really started putting pressure on

More recently Codie Taylor has hit a real purple patch of form and Samisoni's form has dropped away (though a highly promising display last week).

Plumtree only lasted 3 tests as forwards coach before Jase Ryan came in

I understand Lord's selection on the bench as Razor and Ryan probably want to target the Argies LO which was a weakness during the Cordoba game. If Holland is substituted, then Lord could fill his role perfectly as far as the lineout is concerned. But Lord can't be compared to PT in terms of physicality, ball carrying and maybe of power in the scrums.

I recall that and IIRC the coaches persisted with Cody in an attempt to play him into form. With the benefit of hindsight I'm pleased they did because his form over the last few seasons has been phenomenal.

@antipodean but that assumes he couldn't have been played into form for Canterbury without stinking up the bed for the All Blacks. Which might be the case, but obviously we'll never know.

I understand Lord's selection. He's below Holland, Scott Barrett, Patrick Tuipolutu, Tupou Vaii (who is preferred as a 6 now anyway) and perhaps Sam Darry on the locking depth chart, but he's ahead of anyone else and Lock is a position where injuries are frequent.

He's an excellent lineout practitioner. Having him Test-ready and not tempted to disappear overseas is a big bonus.

Lord at his best is probably the third-best lock New Zealand has right now (including Vaa'i in there). Unfortunately he hasn't been at his best for a number of years due to injury. With an extended run, he can hopefully regain some of that form and get him back into tip-top shape. A Holland/Lord combo with Vaa'i at 6 and Darry covering from the pine could be best in class come 2031.

Yeah that’s how I see it , just a case of next man up .And they might give holland a spell , he’s played a lot of minutes .

And getting experience into him won’t hurt long term .

He’s not a power lock. Would go well with Patty T, and to an extent Scooter.

I can’t say I’ve noticed how Parker defends. Assumed solid, and neither a thumper nor a scragger. @Bovidae?
